About this listen

Audie Award Finalist, Mystery, 2014

As 35th in line for the throne, Lady Georgiana Rannoch may not be the most sophisticated young woman, but she knows her table manners. It's forks on the left, knives on the right - not in His Majesty's back….

"Here I am thinking the education I received at my posh Swiss finishing school would never come in handy. And while it hasn't landed me a job, or a husband, it has convinced Her Majesty the Queen and the Dowager Duchess to enlist my help. I have been entrusted with grooming Jack Altringham - the Duke's newly discovered heir fresh from the Outback of Australia - for high society. The upside is I am to live in luxury at one of England's most gorgeous stately homes. But upon arrival at Kingsdowne Place, my dearest Darcy has been sent to fetch Jack, leaving me stuck in a manor full of miscreants…none of whom are too pleased with the discovery of my new ward. And no sooner has the lad been retrieved than the Duke announces he wants to choose his own heir. With the house in a hubbub over the news, Jack's hunting knife somehow finds its way into the Duke's back. Eyes fall, backs turn, and fingers point to the young heir. As if the rascal wasn't enough of a handful, now he's suspected of murder. Jack may be wild, but I'd bet the crown jewels it wasn't he who killed the Duke…."

Editor reviews

Editors Select, August 2013 - I am absolutely not joking when I say I had to beat out no less than 7 other hard-core in-house Royal Spyness fans for the privilege to choose Rhys Bowen’s newest installment as my top pick for August. If you have already started listening to this series I don’t really need to talk to you because you’ll already be as excited as I am about Heirs and Graces. If you have not picked up Her Royal Spyness then listen up: Please, I beg of you, do not hesitate. I have yet to recommend this series without effusively positive results. I’m not generally a cozy mystery fan, but Rhys Bowen’s delightful saga is my top favorite series to date, and Katherine Kellgren is at her most talented and charming in her spot-on performance of the myriad voices at play.

I feel I have learned more about pre-war England through Verity Bright’s writings than I did at school. An atmospheric study of history and culture shows the depth of One’s learning potential. It’s just so much fun that I cannot pin it to a ‘study’

Fantastic

Heirs and Graces is a romping good novel. It keeps you guessing right up to the end. However what makes it such fun is the way Katherine Kellgren narrates it. Her versatility of accents is astonishing - it really sounds like there’s a lot of different people involved. Her deftness at switching from one accent to another is mind blowing.

Katherine Kellgren is fabulous

As always very enjoyable and well narrated. Highly recommend this book and others in series

Another high jinks story

A good, old murder mystery with a twist… I can’t wait to listen to the next one.

Voice acting.

love all of her royal spyness books. great easy to get into books. light hearted. funny. and enough drama found on to keep me interested. I'm always shocked at who is the baddy.

great books

Not my favourite read, but I Will get the next book as I liked a couple of the characters. The narrator gave one character a really grating awful voice which was difficult to listen to but I supposed that would be accurate for that character.

Easy listening

If you’re au fait with your Greek Mythology, then, this may well be a walk in the park for you. I’m not, and neither was the Chief Inspector (whose character I did not warm to). Talking about characters I didn’t warm to, the hand maiden, Queenie, is still not a favourite. Fortunately there was very little of her but she’s still annoying.

An idyllic country seat is the scene of the crime, with a disparate cast of characters only 2 of whom could have been supposed to have committed the crime. As only Lady Georgiana is both willing and able to solve the crime, it’s fortunate that she happens to be on hand, doing everything except what she was ‘hired’ to do...

Another lack lustre story, but perfectly suited to whiling away an evening during the pandemic lockdown of 2020!

Good Plot Premise

Too complex and in depth did not suit my taste as needed however intriguing

Another really funny detective story, I was not able to work this one out! Laughted all the way though. Read brilliantly by Katherine Kellgren.

Heirs and Graces

Katherine Kellgren is possibly the best audiobook reader I have ever heard. She brings Georgie to life and makes an already wonderful story incredible.

Kellgren Strikes Again
