About this listen

Step into the magical world of Hedgewitch, where the land of Faerie lies just beyond our own, in this enchanting new series for children age 9+ and listeners of Nevermoor and The Worst Witch.

Cassie Morgan has run away. After seven years spent waiting for her mother to return, she flees her dreary boarding school and sets out to find her. But the world outside her school is full of hidden magic and children have been going missing.

With the help of a talking cat and a flying broom, Cassie escapes to the enchanted village of Hedgely. There she will begin her training in the practical skills of witchcraft with the Hedgewitch, who watches over the Hedge, the vast forest that marks the border between England and Faerie.

Will Cassie discover the truth about her mother? Can she find the lost faery treasures before the wicked Erl King gets his hands on them? And what will it take to save her new home - and Britain itself - from the shadowing magic of Faerie?

Critic reviews

"Magical in every sense of the word." (Eoin Colfer)

"There are only two sorts of fantasy story: the ones that feel fake and the ones that feel real. It's hard to explain the difference but you know the real ones when you read them and Hedgewitch is one of them." (Philip Reeve)

A lovely read for young people. beautifully written and nicely told. Full of imagination any child will find themselves looking in on the adventure and perhaps even identifying with the characters.

A witchling adventure.

I loved it such a good explanation of modern witch craft
My only problem was that it always ends well

Fantastic 🌿

Cassandra Morgan was hiding in the broom cupboard. It wasn’t a bad place to hide, all things considered; a narrow window provided light to read by and an upturned bucket served well enough as a seat. If she ignored the smell of mildew and the odd inquisitive mouse, it was almost cosy
. . .
Thus begins a stunning debut middle grade series Hedgewitch by Skye McKenna with the audiobook book narrated by Joan Walker. I highly recommend it if you’ve previously enjoyed Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend, Amari and the Night Brothers by BB Alston and The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

Non spoilery audiobook review ⬇️

Cassie has waited seven years for her mother to come back after leaving her at Fowell House boarding School.
She escapes the boarding school to a place just outside of England where the world is full of magic and children are disappearing.

Cassie ends up in Hedgely (a magical town) to live with her aunt and to look for her mother whom she believes is still alive.
Here there are talking cats (and other magical animals), magic and a witches coven. The magic coven is like the Girl Guides but where the girls are working for badges towards becoming a fully fledged witch

But does Cassie find out what happened to her mother? And is she still alive? Well you’ll just have to read the book yourself to find out

I liked the magical element and I didn't like the bit where... Actually I don't dislike anything in this peticular story.

The unique structure of the story.

Although it ends on a cliff hanger, it is an amazing book to listen to at night or when you are just dealing bored. Personally, to many cliffhangers is just the right amount, and this book has (in my opinion) lots of cliffhangers. Buy this book with credits or money, I don't mind but buy it. You will regret it if you don't listen to it. I've said once and I'll say it again:
