About this listen
Dr. Scott Weaver, a snarky middle-aged dead man with a gift, hates his job. After committing suicide when one of his patients dies on the table, Scott wakes to find himself stuck in his own personal purgatory—where he can only leave if he works as a "Healer" to save all the poor citizens of the corrupt Blister City. But one night on the job, he is unable to heal an old friend. Filled with the guilt, Scott travels down a dark path filled with gritty strip clubs and rundown bars.
Doomed to remain stuck in his world forever, Scott is sent Malakai, a canine companion from above with just as much attitude as him. With his time in purgatory coming to an end, Malakai steers Scott is on the right path to gain redemption. But when Scott's powers fail him again, he battles with self doubt and wonders if he healed the wrong man.
He is soon faced with a devastating choice: make one last heal and redeem himself from his own personal hell, or commit the ultimate sin to condemn himself in order to save countless souls from a fate worse than death.

A dark dive into redemption
This character is flawed and sharp tongue as they come, but watching his painful hilarious and at times heartbreaking journey through purgatory was a ride I didn’t wanna end. Beneath the dark humor and CD setting guys thought provoking elements like guilt second chances and what if it really means to save a soul

Nice Story
Wow, this story really got to me. I felt so bad for the main guy, you know? Being stuck like that? The narrator did a great job making him sound so grumpy but also, like, really sad inside. It made me wonder what I would do. The ending… oh man, it was intense! Definitely worth a listen on ACX.

Good story
This is a good story and well read by Michael Bridges who had a nice tone and cadence. This keeps you interested from start to finish, despite the dark undertone. Took me a bit but eventually started to like Dr Scott. I enjoyed this audiobook quite a bit!

i like it
Healers has a strong concept and an intriguing main character, but I found it hard to connect emotionally with the story. The plot felt slow at times, and some of the dialogue came across as a bit forced. That said, I did enjoy the dark, gritty atmosphere and the moral dilemmas Scott faces. It’s a decent listen, but it could’ve gone deeper.

Great book
This book grabbed me from the first page with its sharp wit and setting, and deeply flawed yet strangely lovable protagonist. Scott Weaver’s post-mortem odyssey through Blister City is equal parts tragic and hilarious, blending dark humor with moments of emotional gut-punches that linger long after reading.

Surprisingly Redemptive
It’s definitely not a light read, but it’s one that sticks with you. If you're into stories that dig into the human condition with a supernatural twist, this one’s worth picking up.

Gripping and unforgettably raw
Dark, gripping, and unforgettably raw, this novel plunges readers into the heart of Blister City, a grim world where redemption comes with a heavy price. Dr. Scott Weaver is a protagonist as flawed as he is compelling, navigating a purgatory laced with guilt, grit, and unexpected moments of hope. With sharp dialogue, atmospheric world-building, and a surprisingly heartwarming bond between man and dog, this story delivers a fresh, emotional twist on the redemption arc. Perfect for fans of dark fantasy and gritty character-driven tales, it’s a really enjoyable journey you won’t want to miss.

Heartfelt
Dark, gritty, and surprisingly heartfelt story. Dr. Scott Weaver is the kind of flawed, sarcastic antihero you can’t help but root for, even as he spirals. The world-building is wild, and the emotional depth caught me off guard :)
