About this listen

Halfskin (Book One)

Biomites are artificial stem cells that can replace any cell in your body. No more kidney failure, no severed spines or blood disease. No cancer. Pharmaceuticals become obsolete. With each dose of biomites, we become stronger, we become smarter and prettier.

We become better.

At what point are we no longer human?

Clay (Book Two)

Jamie wants to be a halfskin.

Her life has become dull and pointless. If she had more biomites - synthetic stem cells that promise hope - she could take control of her life. But Jamie's body is already 49.9% biomites. The rest is clay - her God-given organic cells. Any more biomites and she becomes a halfskin. And halfskins are shutdown.

But there is a way.

Bricks (Book Three)

Fabbers, slabbers and fakies were dehumanizing slurs for fabricated humans. Bricks, however, was the People's favorite.

Engaging story premise and characters. Let down by the incomplete explanation of the context and all the loose ends left at the end of the third book. If there were a follow up, I would not hesitate to read it.

A good listen as a boxed set

book 1 I found interesting and the world building was full and in depth,so much so that the tale pulled me right in,book 2 was much darker, full of religious righteous indignation and angst ridden navel gazing , book 3 was just so full of hate and despair,so much so I couldn't finish it, Life is too short and too filled with pain to fill my head with More.

too angst ridden

Tony Bertauski never lets his readers down and he delivers again with this excellent series. Asking big questions like, how far humans should take their love of technology? What would a world where perfection is possible look like? He fills the engrossing world he creates with equally engrossing chracters that feel very real. The author may be delivering a fictional techno-thiller full of science fiction but he does so with such skill it feels very plausible. As well as at times terrifying. Great work.
David Dietz does a great job bringing the characters and the world to life. I'd go as far as to say he's the perfect narrator for this particular series. With high production values evident throughout, his reading elevates an already excellent series.

A Great Series - Excellent As A Box Set.
