About this listen

They took his daughter, so Micah comes to take their kingdom.

Fifty thousand gun-toting paladins march behind him, all baptized in angel blood, thirsty to burn unbelievers. Only the janissaries can stand against them. Their living legend, Kevah, once beheaded a magus amid a hail of ice daggers. But ever since his wife disappeared, he spends his days in a haze of hashish and poetry.

To save the kingdom, Kevah must conquer his grief and become the legend he once was. But Micah writes his own legend in blood, and his righteous conquest will stop at nothing. When the gods choose sides, a legend will be etched upon the stars.

Game of Thrones meets Arabian Nights in this blood-soaked epic fantasy inspired by The Crusades, featuring Lovecraftian gods, mischievous djinns, and astral magic.

Dark & Flat

1/3 of this book could be removed and it wouldn't change anything
When you make your world "dark" you need to be able to connect with characters - I couldn't connect with any of them
People dying left & right and not caring makes it pointless

Muskets, Mages, and More!

Fresh fantastical foray into an expansive world focused predominantly on the seige of a single city. Great self contained start to series.

Not too shabby

It's a bit slow at times. The narrator dropped out of accents but otherwise was enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend and will start the second one with high hopes!

Dark, very very dark

Loved it, although some bits were... Difficult to say the least, somewhat disturbing, but highly worth a listen, true epic fantasy

A bit meh

I found no point to the changing first person narrative, Story so and so, as others have pointed out the pace is fast, which also imparts a sense of jumpiness. Not the best, not the worst.

Got bored, DNF

Really boring, very slow and nothing going on. Characters aren't very interesting, world is bland and everything is exposition. Narrator isn't very good either, not much change to emotion in the voices ever and the pacing is really bad.
