About this listen

Karigan G'ladheon always seemed to be getting into a fight, and today was no exception. But as she trudged through the forest, using her long walk home to contemplate her depressing future - and the expulsion it was bound to hold - a horse burst through the woodland and charged straight for her. The rider was slumped over his mount's neck with two arrows embedded in his back. Wherever his horse was taking him, he would be dead before they got there. There's nothing Karigan can do, as the young man lies dying on the road. He had sworn to carry out his mission as a Green Rider - one of the legendary messengers of the king - and he has a life or death message that must reach King Zachary.

Karigan may be unable to save him, but she can deliver his message. He makes her swear to it, to keep it secret and, with his last breath, he warns her to 'beware the shadow man… 'Pursued by an unknown assassin, following a path only her horse seems to know, and accompanied by the silent spectre of the original messenger, Karigan is going to become a legendary Green Rider herself. Caught up in a world of deadly danger and complex magic, compelled by forces she cannot understand, her simple promise to deliver a letter is about to become a race against time… and a race for her life…

The novel itself is fantastic however the narration leaves something to be desired. The dialogue is entirely read in a terrible pseudo English accent at varying rates of success but rest assured that all are annoying. It’s such a shame because the plot immediately grabbed me and I loved the world building. I will be seeking out the book so I can revisit it without having to hear this audiobook again.

I love this book! Ellen Archer’s performance is brilliant. This is my favourite book series and I would highly recommend it.

A fast paced story of great imagination it kept the interest up well. Some parts were predictable but overall enjoyable.

A good read

I was recommended this book but found it only OK. The good guys were all perfect, the bad, evil, with nothing in between leading to cartoon characters and no real plot development.

Second rate fantasy

The narration was impressive - the narrator managed to make sure every voice was different, going as far as singing and although female, managing to make the men's voices sound masculine.
I was very much in love with the story as well, the main character being her lovable spunky self.

Only disappointment is that although the following books are on the US audible, this is the book of the entire series available on the UK audible. Seriously! Give me more!!

Absolutely loved it!

Very much enjoyed, couldn't stop listening
Wonderfully read, fast paced tale,
Characters believable, every emotion
There is ran through the story and the
Narrator made you feel them all.

Engrossing tale

It’s very distracting listening to SO MANY characters depicted in weird UK accents ( none of which are consistent or accurate.. you can only guess the location). The narrators actual voice itself sounds like a character from Little House on the Prairie. I expect if you aren’t from the UK you will not notice it
What a shame. Story is ok-ish. A little long-winded

A generous collection of terrible accents

Green Rider has been a long time favorite book of mine, Karrigan tries to return home after a disagreement with the headmaster at school. Everything seems fine until a rider emerges from the forest with two black arrows in his back and she finds herself agreeing to help the dying man. Following a path only the horse seems to know Karrigan is off on an adventure.

Ellen Archer does a great job of narrating this book. Would love to see the rest of these books on audible.

Even my husband, a reluctant fantasy listener enjoyed this book.

I discovered the green Rider series many years ago, and I’ve been an avid fan ever since. These stories, to me should be held up there as one of the many greats when it comes to fantasy series. The imagination of Kristin Britain is absolutely astounding to me. I am in awe of her ability to spin these elaborate tales, book after book. When I read the stories I am immersed in their worlds, and having to wait for the next book is agony.

Outstanding
