Winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Award, Goodnight Mister Tom is of one of the best-loved stories set during the Second World War.

Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian is the unforgettable story of young Willie Beech, evacuated to the country as Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War. A sad, deprived child, he slowly begins to flourish under the unlikely care of grumpy old Tom Oakley. But then his new-found happiness is shattered by a summons from his mother to come back to London. As the weeks pass by, Tom begins to worry when William doesn't answer his letters, so he goes to London to find him, and there makes a terrible discovery.

This a well produced and read version of a classic, and really conveys the warmth of the story. Despite the depictions of abuse, it still manages to be a heartfelt and uplifting story and is one I return to again and again.

One of my all time favourites

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed being taken back in time while listening to Goodnight Mr Tom on audible. We both cried in parts. It was thrilling to be transported into Williams world. Excellent voice reading it.

Perfect evening listening for two OAP's

This is an amazing story I enjoyed as a child and still love as an adult. Unfortunately this audio version is abridged, and not the best narrator.

Classic story, narration could be better

I liked it except the voice of evacuee Willy which was awful and made him sound dim and whiny.

voice of William put me off

Good book! good book! I love this and sad in parts and also happy! I love it.
This was written by my ten year old daughter. She tells me she liked this book more than Harry Potter, which is very high praise! We enjoyed listening to it every evening before bed and I have to admit, I loved it too. It is a beautifully written book and the reader does a wonderful job.

Happy!!
