About this listen
Forty. Single. And about to become Accidentally Magical....
Up until 24 hours ago, my life was the definition of basic. And that’s okay, because I was happy with my simple existence; co-running the Lustrous Bean, a bookstore café near the beach with my best friend, Willa.
But when a small mix-up has my entire world going topsy-turvy, I’m realizing that nothing in life is ever as simple as it seems.
Now, it turns out that my best friend is a Fae princess on the run, my cat is a British tyrant, and my dog has the vocabulary of a three-year-old. Yes, vocabulary.
Add in a pair of Fae henchmen and a wickedly handsome coven leader, and I’m starting to think I drank a bad bottle of wine.
So how does a regular girl become the center of a magical world? You’re about to find out....

Magic and Mayhem
Gone with the Witches by Melinda Chase is the first book in the Accidentally Magical at Midlife series. The book is full of action - Calle got kidnapped twice (mistaken identity), then learns about the whole secret magical realm. The characters were interesting and I love the talking pets. But then the book just abruptly ended with a big cliffhanger. The narration by Krys Janae was outstanding. The characters came to life. Not sure if I’ll continue on with the series or just let it go.

a story of discovering magic
I'm not sure why the main character purports to be 40. the book is a fairly standard teenage discovers that magic is real scenario, with her mentioning being 40 now and again, but with no solid context.
