The variety of essays, although written 50 and more years ago, some of which are still relevant today.

What was one of the most memorable moments of God in the Dock?

Essays on history and Literature- especially the short, sharp piece showing why Medieval people did not think the earth was flat, and other memorable answers.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Many essays me and my mother related to, and found relevant or poignant.

Well worth a read (or listen), as a collection of lesser know writings.

I enjoyed each letter. The narrator really took back to the moments of each letter and essay.
Ofcourse Lewis doesn't disappoint, his view is beautifully crafted and presented with pure simplicity and authenticity.

This is a book that deserves to be read, and re-read. Clear thinking that seems to wholly absent from our so called modern world.

Beautiful literature
beautifully narrated
Most of Lewis' theological arguments for Christianity are summarised in these essays.

Although the narration is both soothing and inspiring the level of the language is however academic and his arguments are often structured in a complex manner that might confuse the casual reader.

This is not an easy read and in order to seriously understand his logic and his argument this requires an academic style of approach; concentration, critical review, contemplation and then a revisit frequently to test again his ideas.

Arguably Lewis' best theological work.

Although written in the very different post world war period Lewis still has much to say to is today. The language is outdated in parts, and the attitudes particularly towards the sexed reflect the prevailing sentiments of the time, but get beyond this and Lewis gives timeless insights to life that cut through superficialities of the current day. Good production. recommended.

I read this book as I had recently done an Alpha Course and they had mentioned the book a couple of time. It was thought revocting as C.S. Lewis was trying to prove that God didnt exsist but in the end he became Christian because he couldnt prove God didnt exist.

Ralph Cosham seems to be an ideal voice for Lewis's excellent prose, bringing out every nuance in an unforced and listenable way.

Thought-provoking, this collection of works at once gives a useful portrait of its contemporary situation in the UK as well as giving us a strong set of insights into how we got where we are now, spiritually, in the west.

In places it is eerily prescient.

I have already recommended this collection to others and for myself I look forward to starting the longer collection of Lewis's essays available on Audible read by the same narrator.

Most of the secular world knows CS Lewis as the man who wrote the Narnia chronicles. Unfortunately many of them probably don't know that he was one of the most accomplished Christian apologists of the 20th century. His supreme talent lay in being able to tailor the complexity of his arguments to his audience and this is superbly illustrated in this collection of his lectures, letters and articles. There is something for everyone here and is fascinating reading/listening for both those who want to defend their faith to those who seek understand why Christians believe what they do. Don't let the title put you off! It is much more user-friendly that the words "theology and ethics" suggests. It is also a fascinating look into the mind of one of literature's towering intellects.
