About this listen

Georgette Heyer remains an enduring international bestseller, read and loved by four generations of readers and extolled by today's bestselling authors. Despite her enormous popularity she never gave an interview or appeared in public. Georgette Heyer wrote her first novel, The Black Moth, when she was seventeen in order to amuse her convalescent brother. It was published in 1921 to instant success and ninety years later it has never been out of print. A phenomenon even in her own lifetime, to this day she is the undisputed queen of regency romance. During ten years of research into Georgette Heyer's life and writing, Jennifer Kloester has had unlimited access to Heyer's notebooks and private papers and the Heyer family records, and exclusive access to several untapped archives of Heyer's early letters. Engaging, authoritative and meticulously researched, Georgette Heyer: Biography of a Bestseller offers a comprehensive insight into the life and writing of a remarkable and ferociously private woman.©2011 Jennifer Kloester (P)2015 Bolinda Publishing Art & Literature Authors Biography Inspiring

I have lived Georgette Heyer’s novels for more than 30 years and read a previous biography. This one captures so many new facts and surprises about her life. Absolutely well written and gripping. Not only does it make me love the books. more but I can understand more the mind from which they came. Could not be a more perfect narrator. I wish she could narrate more of georgette’s books.

What a clever, and interesting woman Georgette Heyer was. Her personality really shone through in this biography, and the narration was excellent. I was glad that no accents were attempted, as biogs don't need that level of 'acting'. From childhood, Georgette was clearly exceptional and I finished the book wishing she had been a friend of mine.

If you are a fan, I think you will also enjoy hearing how she reacted to, and sometimes struggled with titles that are now well-known to us. I certainly did, and the whole book was an enjoyable and educational escape.

Fascinating

A great biography of a strong, stoic and historical figure, that embraces and engages into how writers write, in the world of literature and of history.
