About this listen

Gallows View is the first novel in Peter Robinson's best-selling Inspector Banks series.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks has recently moved to the Yorkshire Dales from London to escape the stress of the metropolis. But he soon finds that life in the country is not quite as idyllic as he had imagined.

A peeping Tom is frightening the women of Eastvale. Two glue-sniffing thugs are breaking into homes. An old woman may or may not have been murdered. In addition, Banks has to deal with his attraction to a young psychologist, Jenny Fuller. As the tension mounts, both Jenny and Banks' wife are drawn deeper into events. And Banks realises that his cases are weaving closer and closer together....

this felt very dated and the narration was dreary. it was just ok, but I really didn't care what happened. maybe it was just the lackluster narration.

just ok

Bought the first book on the Audible daily offer. Thoroughly enjoyable book so now in danger of using all my credits on his subsequent books. Bring on a 2 for 1 offer on his other books please.

Another enjoyable author found

This is quite a Blokey book. I kind of enjoyed it, but it was a bit steady and wouldn't encourage me to listen to more Peter Robinson. But it was ok.

Easy listening

Quite good. There are both better and worse books. OK but not outstanding or memorable

Average

Enjoyed the story for an easy listen and wanted to know what happened next. Liked the narrator, but he made the women sound like Judy from Punch and Judy. Some parts were a little convenient and unrealistic towards the end.

Good

Books always better than screen adaptations and you cross your fingers the narrator doesn't muller it. This guy is great, an intelligent and skilful read which makes the scenes real without taking away from the author by drawing attention to his own performance. He gets it just right.

T notch narrator for Banks

A flash of nostalgia, in a well written book. Brings me back to Friday evenings and British crime on TV as a child. It's refreshing when new crime seems to be more and more gory and mass murderers.
It's rare to see male writers write female characters so well.
I'm no expert of English dialects, but the reader seems to me to do a good Yorkshire accent.

Classic crime well read

Good narration, but I personally struggled a little with what I felt was a very slow paced story.

However, I did manage to finish it, so overall a good book, and worth a listen. Just don't expect any fast paced action.

Not bad....

solid and decent story. not as good as the later ones though. Banks is a complex character and this book certainly lays down some firm foundations.
