About this listen

Casey Han's years at Princeton have given her a refined diction, an enviable golf handicap, a popular white boyfriend and a degree in economics. But no job, and a number of bad habits.

As Casey, the daughter of working-class Korean immigrants, navigates an uneven course of small triumphs and spectacular failures, a clash of values, ideals and ambitions plays out against the colourful backdrop of New York society.

A masterfully narrated exploration of identity, class, and the Korean-American experience that gives voice to the complexities of immigrant life in contemporary America.

The title "Free Food for Millionaires" shows the absurdity of how more is given to those who have already. Seen through a deep dive into the lives of Korean immigrants and their American-born children in New York City, finance banking and legacy endowment education.

Technically the are some skipped bits and a few leftover instructions from the CD version of the audiobook which are still included here in the Audible version. also, the chapter numbering doesn’t match the chapter numbering in the audible list of chapters

Well worth the time it took me to get into this. The narrator had a voice that was pleasing to the ear (I rarely choose an American narrator) and I learned a lot about life as an American born child of Korean immigrants.

Delightful

Loved this book (very different story to the amazing pachinko). - thoroughly enjoyed the characters, story and setting. Such insight into being a Korean in New York. Any immigrant could relate to the many intelligent observations. Took a few hours to get into and then I was glued!

A brilliant read

A fascinating tale of blended cultures and a clash of traditions from Korea to Wall St, - I too didn’t want it to end!

Family, career and love, Korean style

I got this because I really enjoyed another of Min Jin Lees' books, Pachinko. However, it fell short in quite a lot of areas and I was particularly disappointed with the end. It just seem to tail off. Shame! 😵

Poor end.

Beautifully detailed and unique, contemporary story of being in your twenties e.g career decisions, identity and family.

Obsessed

I listened to this long, meandering, going nowhere book . ......and it literally went nowhere. That's 19 hours I won't get back in my life, I'm disappointed. Maybe there's another book on it's way, but I won't listen to it. But the narrator was excellent.

A story of bad decisions
