About this listen

TEN STORIES MORE SHOCKING THAN FICTION.

For fans of John Grisham's gripping legal thrillers, Framed is told with all the conviction of an edge-of-your-seat courtroom drama.

John Grisham's first work of non-fiction since The Innocent Man, Framed uncovers stories that shine an astonishing light on miscarriages of justice. Written with Jim McCloskey, all the cases in this book are simply extraordinary. And all are true.

Joe Bryan suffered the unbearable tragedy of his wife's murder, only to be tried and found guilty of the crime himself - despite being 120 miles away at the time it was committed.

Clarence Brandley spent nine years on Death Row, coming to within six days of execution, before new evidence cleared him of all charges.

And in the case of the Norfolk Four, police and prosecutors continued to arrest innocent people until not one but four men were behind bars.

An instant New York Times bestseller, Framed is an impeccably researched and grippingly told exposé of the US criminal justice system.

Critic reviews

Each of these stories is told with astonishing power. They are packed with human drama, with acts of shocking villainy and breathtaking courage. But these are more than just gripping true stories - they are a clarion call for reforming the tragic flaws in our criminal justice system (David Grann, New York Times bestselling author of Killers of the Flower Moon)
A brave book telling stories of injustice that everyone should know. Researched in detail and told with heartfelt conviction, this is an important book that should be required reading for anyone interested in the criminal justice system and the cost of its failures. (Lisa Ballantyne, author of The Innocent One)
Framed is a riveting journey into the dark corners of the US justice system. What we find there is difficult to fathom: bias, corruption, ineptitude and a shocking level of apathy in the face of life or death. Told with academic rigour but with the pace and drama of a legal thriller, it is moving, enraging, illuminating, and every bit as gripping as the best of Grisham's fiction. (Kia Abdullah, author of Truth Be Told)

Injustices

Blinded or corrupt or simply malicious officials don't ever seem to be held accountable. Makes you wonder why anyone would want to live in Texas.

True stories

How awful for these people.
Justice in America just doesn’t sit right for me and I wonder how it will be with their new president 🫤
