About this listen
From brass knuckle beatdowns on the schoolyard to showdowns with the SEC on the national news, every second of Deaton’s life has been a fight for survival. This book is the raw, wild John Deaton story, straight from the source. Born in one of the worst neighborhoods in Detroit--the kind of place the city cordoned off with warning signs--and growing up surrounded by hustlers, addicts, abusers, gang bangers, and the downtrodden, Deaton became a fighter, with violence becoming second nature.
Deep down, however, all he wanted was to escape. Deaton’s escape would take him to law school, where he starved and battled cancer while his peers lived off privilege. He became a marine, an attorney, a millionaire, and a father--but the unexamined trauma from his past haunted and nearly broke him. This memoir is Deaton’s confession, his exorcism, and his proclamation to fellow survivors: Don’t give up. Our birth is not our fate. We make our own fate.
Food Stamp Warrior is written with the depth of setting found in Hillbilly Elegy and the razor-sharp, unpretentious voice of Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential. In a time of uncertainty and economic instability, Deaton's story is one of perseverance, resilience, and empowerment.

FAR BEYOND A BOOK!
This is my encounter with John Deaton book.
A long time ago I performed a magic ritual. I had heard that The Holy Spirit had set a limit on God’s Son’s suffering. I wondered about that limit in abstract form: a light that reaches to the deepest depths, a light that reaches the set limit. I received direction on how the ritual was to be performed, I had all the esoteric training and the equipment required. And I was all in. The ritual went so naturally & smoothly that after the mental emotional ‘recovery’ I forgot all about it.
Here, now….today in fact. Whilst listening to John narrate his life story I was struck with a realisation. John’s predicament paralleled the abstract images given to me. There was a specific purpose for the ritual, it was to bring down God’s light to enter the deepest of our collective soul. How that would work out in form was not defined, just the light reaching down to mark that limit. And so today, whilst reading John’s book I got to see that beautiful soul that carried that light to its limit. I got to see through John’s story what that looked like in form.
John I am truly sorry that you were the one who bore this deep pain. I am very grateful to you for your service to our soul. God is with you.

Complete Respect
I'm 58 years old, my faith in human nature is perhaps lower than it should be though I do always try to see the good in people yet I do always half expect to be let down. After everything in your life you have still dedicated it to helping others maybe I should try a little harder.
Your honestly and integrity is beyond that of anyone I have ever known or know of. You are the best of men and this book is so many things not least of all a must read, I had tears rolling down my cheeks in the epilogue I've never read anything like it. Complete respect... hard fists soft heart is something I taught my son and what greater lesson is there than you.
I am also one of your 75,000 so you also have my gratitude too for all that you have done for us... a gratitude I'm quite sure will grow and grow as time goes by 🙂.
Thank you for the book and love right back atcha.
I too am a man of my word

Legend
I thought I had it tough in a council estate in the North east of England. No I didn't, but I totally get John Deaton.. We all had each other's backs.
I was one of the first few thousand people who wrote to John with my permission for him to use me as an xrp token holder. I'm so proud to be in a minute part of his life. Thank you John.

Absolutley Phenomenal
Listening to this book was very emotional for me. At times, I really had to hold back tears as I was listening at work and didn't want to be seen crying. I can relate to so much of your life events, although my experiences haven't been as drastic as yours. I grew up in the same poverty. My mom had to raise me and my two older sisters alone as my alcoholic unless thief father was never around. It was nice to see that one of your closest friends was Polish :) and so am I :)
John, thank you for telling us your life story and for everything you did for us XRP holders and crypto industry altogether. Sending brotherly love to you and your family

Where’s the movie?
This coming of age tale is such an incredible one of overcoming insurmountable obstacles. How does anyone even survive, let alone get where John is right now? It took me a while to write this review because it just won’t do it justice. The rawness, the humor, the tears and laughter, all masterfully told like a Spielberg meets Curtis Hanson film. And I cannot understate the rawness; it makes the rest shine all the more brightly. This book is already a movie in my head even though the story is ongoing. Like a diamond forged under enormous pressure John’s spirit will no doubt keep shining for the underdog. This pitbull will not stand for injustice and he will not let it go. That sounds daft but just read or listen to his damn story already.
Man, do I wish you — and many with you — had an easier life, John. If anyone can make a change for the ones that get ignored and left behind, it’s you. Live long and prosper.
