About this listen
What problems will this book help you solve? Severe and prolonged stress may lead to chronic mental and physical conditions, but it can be managed and even mastered - permanently, without reliance on things like prescription drugs or excess alcohol. We all have a "crack of least resistance" and chronic stress will find it unless you learn to recognize the early warning signs and know how to take positive, healthy action. Fit for Business will show you how to deal with stress, quickly outgrow your problems and be able to play a much bigger game at work without ever again risking the one thing you don't want to live without - your health.
What's the solution? This book will show you how to deal with stress at work in healthy ways, as well as how to channel it into a powerful and positive force for good in your life. It contains some simple but very powerful principles that you may well not have come across before now. In desperation, the author researched the problem for many years and finally found the answers he was looking for. This is the success formula shared in Fit for Business: How to Deal with Stress & Create a Healthy Work Life Balance.
What's the bigger vision? For too long, chronic stress, depression and anxiety at work have been taboo subjects that people feel loathe to talk about and where the help that is available usually focuses on attempting a quick fix, rather than long lasting prevention and a good work life balance. This is the mission and purpose of Fit for Business.
Andrew Bridgewater is a UK chartered psychologist who has learned a great deal about how to deal with stress from personal experience as well as professional practice. Back in 2006, he experienced a prolonged period of work-related stress, leading to an episode of severe depression and the collapse of his business. What did you like most about Fit for Business?
I liked how honest and vulnerable the author is - it really added authenticity to what was being offered up and felt like the book had been written with a genuine desire to help others through his own experience. It was very well researched and covered a full spectrum of wellness related topics and felt very balanced from that perspective.I learnt a lot about nutrition but also really enjoyed some of the other source book references which brought in an eclectic mix of concepts, tools and techniques - rather than it just being the authors own ideas.
It gave me lots of valuable practical tips that I am weaving in to my self care activities.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fit for Business?
I really found the chapter about eating more alkaline very interesting and I am working hard to adapt this. I also really enjoyed the authors personal examples as it makes things easier to understand.Which character – as performed by Andrew Bridgewater – was your favourite?
He played himself, so him!Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No but then it is not a novel. I did however really get me thinking about some of the areas I can make improvements on in my own regime.Any additional comments?
The only other things I would say are that firstly I think you need to buy the audio and printed version. I listen when I am driving and there is just so much useful content I struggled to retain it so I would recommend very highly that you buy both, listen first and then refer back to the hard copy for lists and details for the implementation. I would also say that this is laid out like a 12 week programme but does include a lot of change so I will be implementing things slower to give new habits time to bed in and to avoid overwhelm.A very honest, meaty and valuable tool
