Spanning the decades, Wynn Malone's excellent novel tells the story of a love that is lost, the hurt this causes and the bravery needed to find it again. The wide ranging cast of characters are brought skilfully to life by Amber Benson who, to my British ears at least, convincingly utilises an impressive number of regional US accents to achieve a well narrated audiobook.

An epic lesbian love story

The narrator is the perfect voice for making this story come to life. The plot is compelling and unpredictable. The characters are relatable and it's so easy to root for them.

My only objection is the last few sentences of the ending. I wanted a little more.

A story you can really get into.

You don’t have to be a lesbian to enjoy this journey. Beautifully crafted. A gentle love story

romance novels are usually half as long and cover a short period of time, the beauty of this book is covering a lifetime with all the stories in between , there is only one love and mostly it's messy to get there to keep it or lose it, 2nd chances are rare grab it. our heroine is saddened by loss and wanders trying to remind herself, Wyn Malone captures the soriety girls conflict and her incomplete life, and Amber Benson narrates with humour passion and defines the characters in accent/emotion. it's sad but money really can't buy love we all struggle with it. Great book I will read again often.

I don’t know why I didn’t listen to “Finding the Grain” sooner! It’s a wonderful book that encompasses so many emotions over its 20 year span. This is an epic romance novel, brilliantly narrated. Loved it!

I love this book. I love the decades it took to tell. There are heartbreaking moments and I cried, but seeing someone come back from years of running and finally finding their place was worth every tear drop. The narration of the audiobook was wonderful and at times I believe the lump in Amber Benson’s throat must have been real. I would recommend this to everyone.

Really, this book centers around the main character. If you like her and stay with her through-out the journey, you will find if great. The writing is fine. It doesn't get in the way with cliches or clunky metaphors. It does it's job nicely and unobtrusively.

The narration is overdone at times. It's the first time that I've heard a narrator appear to cry when reading a sad part of the story, and I found that...unnecessary.

The book spans the story of the main character, a free spirited lesbian, from her early college years right though to her 40/50's. Now, the first half of the book describes a haunted, hurt, 'running away from herself and others' character. I really liked this character. I thought she was warm and humane and non-judgmental. The second half of the book sees the character try to 'get her life on track' as she sees it and you know, settle down, get a meaningful relationship, career etc and here is where the book and I parted ways. I flat out didn't like the woman she became as she began to fight for what she wanted. Towards the end, I found myself truly hoping she wouldn't get what she was fighting for (trying not to give spoilers) as I wanted to see her get her comeuppance!

However, this doesn't mean the book was bad. I just didn't like the character. If you like the character, you'll get along fine with this book.

A touch too much melodrama in the narration
