A very good insight into sisters lore. This book feels like an Eisenhorn novel, in that the majority of the setting is not on some large battlefield, and there's plenty of secrets for the cast to discover. This allows for a lot of good characterisation of the sororitas characters, and shows them in some unique situations besides shooting a boltgun and praying to the Emperor.

A highlight of this is definitely the narration. Emma Gregory gives an outstanding performance, with both dialogue and exposition. Even male characters sound rugged and masculine enough, which unfortunately some female narrators can't pull off.

I will definitely be listening to the sequel.

Enjoyed the story. Shame it was a single voice actor for all characters a nice look in the life of the Sisters of battle and the Imperial Church.

The Emperor Protects!

The story itself isnt anything to write home about. A by the numbers plot you woul expect to see in any 80's action movie. The real draw here is the world building. Learning how sororitas are trained, how they operate and the customs of imperial life were all intriguing.

While I do have issues with some of the tropes the story leans on in regards to the villains, these can be easily forgiven as Emma Gregory is fantastic in every role. What would normally be an obnoxious monologue by the villain is saved by her performance giving personality and grandeur to almost every scene. The one character she couldn't save though is Sister Verity.

Sister Veritys naivety and whining bring every scene she's in to a crushing stop. While not a hardened battle Sister it's mentioned that she has still witnessed the horrors of war and you would think she would be able to handle herself, but every time she needs to show a semblance of competence she fails. She adds almost nothing to the plot other than to be a damsel in distress and in a story full of hardened sisters it's jarring and annoying.

I've read this novel recently and have to say I enjoyed reading it more than listening to it. Emma Gregory does "strict women" very well but could do with a little more variety. As far as the story goes, it's quite pacey and has some great moments. You can't go far wrong with this.

She breathes life into each and every character. I cannot imagine a better fit for the Adepta Sororitas. Perfection.

it was a really good listen, plot twists I've come to expect from Black Library .
Emma Gregorys narration is by far the best and she is rapidly becoming one of my favourite narrators of any BL book
If your new to Sisters of Battle then this is a great way to get into the story lines

It sounds like a plot for a B movie but the story of the sisters is very interesting and details the fanatical ideology that religion can imbue, I enjoyed this book but at times felt it too long, the narration was very good
