About this listen

From a popular dating coach and podcast host, a guide to dismantling the myths that get in the way of finding love

Does dating feel like you’re chasing a “happily ever after” that always seems out of reach? You’re not alone: many modern daters are stuck following old rules, hung up on ideas like instant chemistry and “the One.” In F the Fairy Tale, love expert Damona Hoffman helps listeners break free of those dating myths—and write their own love stories. Drawing on nearly twenty years of experience as a dating coach, Hoffman reveals the four pillars of strong relationships: goals, values, communication, and trust. And she doesn’t just tell listeners what to do or not to do—she explains why, exploring the psychological and societal factors behind our behavior to help us break free of old habits for good. F the Fairy Tale gives you the tools to create the happy ending to your love story that’s just right for you.

Critic reviews

Damona Hoffman is an absolute genius because she makes us realize how to help ourselves not stay stuck and gets us on a path to understanding ourselves better. And when we clear the cobwebs of one-sided expectations and societal myths, she helps us get the clarity to move forward in a reality that is beautifully tailored for ourselves. It is a pragmatic and self-respecting place of hope with an actual road map.”—Drew Barrymore

“As a therapist deeply invested in human relationships, I loved reading F the Fairy Tale. Hoffman shakes up conventional narratives and invites readers to take control of their love stories with relatable anecdotes, wise insights, and actionable tools to help anyone looking for authentic connection navigate the modern dating landscape.”—Lori Gottlieb, New York Times-bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone and co-host of the Dear Therapists podcast

“Hoffman’s F the Fairy Tale is the cold shower and cup of warm tea every single needs in today’s toxic swipe culture. Not just a no-BS approach to love and dating, but also a manual that deserves a spot on every therapist’s bookshelf, to maneuver through the process and make smart decisions to set you up for a relationship with legs.”—John Kim (The Angry Therapist), author of Single On Purpose

I love how Damona brings a logical and objective view about how to go about dating. She frames how sad she feels when people go on a dating break, as they are no longer able to meet potential partners. It’s quite a statistical and painfully factual way to think about meeting “the one”. But so true, we cannot complain about not meeting anyone if we are not “out there” meeting other single people. Get familiar with phrases like; “dating fatigue, dating burnout, texting trap” and more.
