About this listen
After getting arrested at a Venezuelan airport with a suitcase of cocaine, Natalie was clueless about the danger she was facing.
Sentenced to 10 years, she arrived at a prison with armed men on the roof, whom she mistakenly believed were the guards, only to find out they were homicidal gang members.
Immediately, she was plunged into a world of unimaginable horror and escalating violence, where murder, rape, and gang warfare were carried out with the complicity of corrupt guards. Male prisoners often entered the females’ housing area, bringing gunfire with them and leaving corpses behind.
After 4.5 years, Natalie risked everything to escape and flee through Colombia, with the help of a guard who had fallen deeply in love with her.

fantastic book
This book was fantastic, all the emotions were jumping out and Natalie didn't hold back with her honest and bare story . she wasn't trying to make you feel bad for her she was telling it like it was and it really relayed well. the narrator did a awesome job also . if your a true crime fan or love banged/locked up abroad the TV show then you will love this book.

Good story, not my choice of narrator, the afterword was disappointing
Some wild moments and a good insight into the Venezuelan prison system. I’m glad I listened but there is something I found deeply disturbing about the author, whilst honest with their experiences, I found myself being very judgmental about her relationship with her daughter. The afterword left me very disappointed! For me, the narrator, although clear, lacked character and her accents were not accurate- I’d rather she didn’t do them.

Good story marred by awful accents
All in all a good story, however the accents that the narrator does are absolutely atrocious. If your Spanish-speaking characters sound like cheap villians from Arabian Nights then you should probably just read it in your normal voice. I've cringed a number of times whilst listening to this and it just lets the whole thing down in my eyes; the scouse accent is another one that made me just want to turn it off and leave it for good.
Also pre-warning but the protagonist (?) will no doubt have you thinking 'you idiot' at some point. We were all naive and clueless at some point, but the decisions she made and the general lack of thought that went into those decisions might make it hard to like her, and leave you feeling a bit disassociated from her.
Besides that, good solid story.

Strong message
This is a dramatic and eventful real life story, and I value the message in it.
I found the reader's voice annoying for the most part, with terrible Spanish accents, not even pronouncing Chavez's name correctly, which would have been easy to research.
Still a worthwhile book, and my heart goes out to the author.
