About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Endurance by Scott Kelly.

From the NASA astronaut who spent a record-breaking year aboard the International Space Station - what it's like out there and what it's like now, back here. Enter Scott Kelly's fascinating world and dare to think of your own a little differently.

The veteran of four space flights and the American record holder for most consecutive days spent in space, Scott Kelly has experienced things very few of us ever have and very few of us ever will.

Kelly's humanity, compassion, humour and passion shine as he describes navigating the extreme challenge of long-term spaceflight, both existential and banal. He touches on what's happened to his body, the sadness of being isolated from everyone he loves, the pressures of constant close cohabitation, the catastrophic risks of colliding with space junk and the still more haunting threat of being absent should tragedy strike at home.

From a natural storyteller, Endurance is one of the finest examples of the triumph of the human imagination, the strength of the human will and the boundless wonder of the galaxy.

Despite coming across as a little arrogant on times I can fully forgive him when you consider his start in live and what he has achieved. A truly remarkable story of a very poor education achievement followed by a ‘divine ah ha’ moment when he read The Right Stuff and suddenly finding a purpose and goal in life.

The details of life aboard the ISS were really interesting and it was so nice to have the author read his own book.

An excellent book and highly recommended.

An excellent story about life in space

My first read/listen of space from an astronaut, narrated by the man himself.
Enthralling and captivating, a great insight into a man, a dream and goal and overcoming all obstacles to reach that goal.
The Right Stuff is now in shopping a shopping bag, waiting for my ride home while drinking a good IPA.
Thank you to Scott for sharing his journey.

Scott tells space from human perspective

Astronaut Scott Kelly did an amazing job of telling his own personal account of his experiences on the ISS. I felt like I was with him all the way.

You go to school, finish a mildly interesting university, find an average job that pays your bills and enjoy the rest of your life…until you die. At the same time you're doing this there are incredibly driven, determined and hard-working people conducting spacewalks around 300km above the Earth's surface. Even thinking about something like that feels like sci-fi but it's not! I have always been curious about the subject of space travel, living in such a distant place and the daily life and routines out there.

I couldn't have picked a better book to satisfy my curiosity than “Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery”, it's a stellar memoir written by a military pilot, an engineer, a retired astronaut and U.S. Navy Captain — Scott Kelly. It's a fascinating behind the scenes look into a life of an immensely hard-working human in space and his record-breaking year on the International Space Station (ISS). A large part of a book covers the past decades of Scott's life and the exhaustive process of physical and mental preparation. What I found interesting was the detailed descriptions of his everyday life that he shared with a few colleagues whilst orbiting the Earth, from spacewalks to fixing the ISS toilet! I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Scott Kelly himself, and was hooked from start to finish!

I love the Astronauts personal stories of thier experience and more. Scott Kelly's audiobook is superb , it's a raw view experience of his experience , well documented , well told , frustration and joy of his roles before and on the International Space Station and more. Best astronaut book so far for me !

Really Enjoyed !

I am a space and lover and so listening to this book was a no brainer for me. The detail Scott goes into is fascinating but can become a lot. I loved listening to him describe take off, space walks, unexpected emergencies, landing and his well informed and thought through views on life and family. However, at points I would zone out as he describes fixing an item on the ISS for the 5th time.

Overall, I loved this book and would highly recommend. There are bit to push through but the good bits make it well worth it. What a man.

As an avid scifi reader, I was really intrigued by how different space is from fiction. Reality is larger than fiction and interesting and exciting. I enjoyed the last chapter when he describes some of the insights he has gained, which gave me hope for the future of our planet as well as for space travel. A really enjoyable book.

A thoroughly interesting read
