Darkness falls... Despair abounds... Evil reigns...

Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix, cruel ruler of the Empire. Now Eragon must travel to Ellesméra, land of the elves, for further training in magic and swordsmanship, the vital skills of the Dragon Rider. It is the journey of a lifetime, filled with awe-inspiring new places and people, each day a fresh adventure. But chaos and betrayal plague him at every turn, and Eragon isn't sure whom he can trust. Meanwhile, his cousin Roran must fight a new battle back home in Carvahall, one that puts Eragon in even graver danger. Will the king's dark hand strangle all resistance? Eragon may not escape with even his life .

I reviewed Eragon back in 2006 as Sanlan37 and looked forward to the next part of the story. A friend of mine had the Gerald Doyle version on cd but I prefer the narration of Kerry Shale after getting used to his character voices in Eragon so I downloaded the audio book from here instead. I was not dissapointed . You get a follow on from where the last book ended, and the story is progressed in such a way that it's possible to see a third book on the horizon without compromising the end of this story. A talented new writer without a doubt.

amazing story, it's really a shame that they changed the narrator from an English voice to and American one. If the American man had read from the beginning It would have been great, but the first book was narrated by a much better English voice actor. If you can get past the initial off putting of that, the further you listen to the story the less it matters. I'd still recommend it! x

I love this story!

The voices have changed a lot like orick the dwarf goes from deep and powerful to like he has taken a load of helium . And bits was removed like the puzzle he was given by the dwarfs and the religious customs of the dwarfs ie how ereagon is now considered a dwarf that he must ensure that if a fellow dwarf dies that he makes sure he is returned to the catacombs or buried in stone ... All this and more was removed which explained a lot in the later books

Voices changes from previous book and bits missing

The first book was a pretty decent listen with the characters being given reasonably believable dialects. This book, however, the narration is awful and is making it hard to listen. Why change the narrator?

Why oh why

I thought I bought the Gerrard doyle on but even though it took time to get used to the new storyteller I found it overall quite enjoyable.
