A medida que se desarrolla la novela y que el protagonista se sumerge en el vicio en contraposición con el desesperado anhelo de eterna juventud, se presiente un final terrible. Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900) fue un dramaturgo, poeta, ensayista y novelista irlandés. Fue exitoso desde el comienzo gracias a su fino espíritu crítico, ardiente imaginación y aguda sensibilidad, y sus textos están determinados por la ironía y por la estética por el arte, la crítica a la alta sociedad y la superficialidad que la envolvía, despreciando la moral burguesa y busca provocar al lector mediante el humor y la ironía.
