About this listen
Cozy up with this warm, festive rom com novella about being true to your heart, the friendships that define us, and the irresistible pull of holiday magic.
Last year, Rachel Bacharach met the man of her dreams at a Hanukkah party — and then her outgoing best friend Tamara swooped in and “called” Oz Caplan for herself. It’s a typical outcome for the dependable, bookish Rachel, who is never able to extinguish the spark she immediately felt for Oz. But being secretly in love with her best friend’s boyfriend all year hasn’t been easy.
As this year’s party approaches, Oz and Tamara break up. It’s a worst-case scenario when Oz asks Rachel to help him write Tamara love letters to win her back in time for their Hanukkah anniversary. Rachel’s been writing love letters to Oz in her journals for a year; she knows all the words he would need. But will Rachel be able to hide her true feelings from Oz any longer? And might this year’s party finally be Rachel’s chance to trust her heart and put everything on the line for love?

The premise sounded interesting but the characters were just really annoying! Especially Oz who just couldn't see what (or who) was right in front of him. I had a lot of eye rolls! Tamara gave me shit friend vibes too for various reasons, and Rachel, well... she was the most likeable I guess.
What I did like was finding about Jewish customs as it's not something I'd normally read about, and the food!
Overall it was average - not terrible, but not the greatest either.
it was...okay

- Jerk hero
- Jerk 'bestfriend'
Can't see the romance here as...
The guy chose the hotter girl over the heroine, with whom he supposedly connected with BEFORE meeting the hot friend. As if it wasn't too much already, he also asks the heroine to help him win his girlfriend back. How the heck can it be called a romance? It isn't romantic at all!
Friend don't step over each other without a care in the world and than 'pass' the guy a YEAR later because they 'know' their friend (only learned her friend's feelings one year later, when she tired of the guy, but you know ' I'm your friend, so I KNOW you').
A woman with some bones doesn't step away and let another steel the guy she supposedly loves.
Only the good narration saved it to me.
Lovely setting for a not so lovely 'romance'

The storyline is a little too obvious but it’s worth a listen.
Predictable but an easy listen

I’m reading it out of season, but it works whenever, it’s lovely and cosy.
This was beautifully narrated by the male and female duo - it was an Audible Plus selection (which meant that it was free) and very well produced!
Greatly paced short story!
