About this listen

Twelve years ago, I left Thornchapel—and the two boys I gave my heart to—behind. And now I’ve returned, hopeful... and wary. Because it's so very easy to be drawn back into the world of the seductive and elegant Auden Guest... and into the world of his worst enemy, St. Sebastian Martinez.

The beautiful and brooding St. Sebastian is as irresistible as he ever was, and Auden is just as handsome and arrogant, and the three of us can't seem to unknot ourselves from each other. From the hasty promise we three made all those years ago.

As Thornchapel slowly tightens its coil of truths and lies around us, our reluctant threesome starts unravelling into filthy, holy pleasure and pain. Together we've awakened a centuries-old fate that will either bloom like a rose... or destroy us all.

From the author of the USA Today bestselling New Camelot series comes a gothic, dark academia fairy tale full of lantern-lit rituals, foggy moors, and obsessions that last for lifetimes...A Lesson in Thorns is the first book in the Thornchapel Quartet. What a wonderful conclusion to an excellent story. Smart writing and fabulous narration, this is one series of books YOU MUST listen to, you really won't regret it. 😉

Wonderful!

I absolutely adore books, the rare ones like these Thornchappel series, that keep you gripped in their pages until the very last page. I don’t know what it is but Sierra does this every time.

If you have stuck around this far, you must be as in love with these books as those of us who finished them. All I’ll say - it’s more than worth it. A magical story until the very end.

Incredible to the very end

I listened to the first book in the series on audiobook and loved it, then proceeded to read books 2 and 3 on kindle before listening to book 4 on audiobook and I wish I had read the last book rather than listened to it.

The story itself is wonderful, filled with the complex layers that Sierra Simone is an absolute master in building, the characters felt like they stayed true to themselves and all had their part to play, even if some of them were to a greater extent than others. Truly, a wonderful wrap up of the series and I am sad to see the end of it but also deeply satisfied.

The problem with the audiobook is the narrators with some of them being particularly challenging to listen to with many mispronounced words that took me completely out of the story as I tried to figure out what the word was meant to be based off of the rest of the line and inconsistent accents throughout. Additionally, many of the narrators tonality just felt deeply off for the characters and their personalities. It is such a shame that the narrator who voiced Poe in book one didn't continue throughout the series as she was much better. The male voice actors were the best of the read with the narrator for Auden being the best and actually very good but he was the high point performance wise. I would recommend that you listen to a sample (hopefully you get to hear other characters than Auden, as I said he was good) before buying the audio book and/or have listened to the cast in book 3.

Amazing story let down by the narration
