Sein erster Fall: Ein stadtbekannter Bierbeschauer wird tot an der Isar gefunden - eingehüllt in einen kostbaren Federumhang, daneben der Abdruck eines Elefantenfußes. Gryszinski kommt bald einer Verschwörung nationalen Ausmaßes auf die Spur, die ihn vor eine unsägliche Wahl stellt: Ist er eher bereit, seine Ehre als bayerischer Beamter zu verletzen oder als preußischer Offizier?
