About this listen
Often it is stated that George Lucas derived Star Wars from Joseph Campbell's Monomyth or The Hero's Journey. That he was the driving force behind the original trilogy's success. That he planned it as a 12-chapter saga from the very start. These things could not be further from the truth.
There are others who played roles in its success, such as his ex-wife, Marcia Lucas; producer Gary Kurtz; and Empire Strikes Back screenwriters Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan. This presents an alternate view of the Star Wars saga and how it began. While not unheard of, the topics discussed here will give fans a different perspective.
