About this listen

An all new digital audio edition of DEATH ON THE NILE narrated by Kenneth Branagh, director and star of 20th Century Studios’ upcoming Death on the Nile feature film.

The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile is shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway has been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful, a girl who had everything – until she lost her life.

Hercule Poirot recalls an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: ‘I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.’ Yet in this exotic setting nothing is ever quite what it seems…

Kenneth Branagh reprises both his directorial role and that of the iconic detective in the upcoming film adaptation of Death on the Nile. Listen to the book now, and see the thrilling mystery come to life on the big screen soon!

Narration takes away from the story

The story is great, however the narrator reads too fast and tends to sound screechy, especially when reading female characters' dialogues.

Great mystery. Not so great performance.

Loved the story. Kenneth has a wonderful voice but all the characters sounded similar so I got lost a lot at the beginning.

"Do not open your heart to evil."

Agatha Christie does write some deliciously contrived and convoluted plots, and this, like Murder on the Orient Express, is one of the best. However, she always seems rather two dimensional to this rrader, which is why viewing the stories as films is always so much more satisfuing. But best of all - a superb narration which still leaves the pictures to the reader's imagination whilst fleshing out the protagonists into fully developed characters by verbal nuances, expression and tonal variation. And Kenneth Branagh's performance supplies it all.
Brilliantly sparkling (and strangely reminiscent of Noel Coward) .
The best Poirot I have heard.

Outstanding performance.

This is one of my favourite Agatha Christie’s (isn’t it everyone’s?) and I thought Kenneth Branagh might ham it up too much but actually it is brilliant. The characterisation really sings and it’s a great story. Can’t wait for the film now!

A very different story

Have seen the film version of the film, with Peter Ustinov as Hercule poirot and I was expecting this audiobook to follow much the same line as the film, but it wasn't how I expected it to be,there were quite a few different characters and their story's were very different, but all in all a great story.

Kenneth Branagh was for me a very good narrator,he moved the story along at a good pace, and the deviations on the accents of the characters was very good.
