Complete and Unabridged Hercule Poirot Mystery

Read by David Suchet.

Sir George and Lady Stubbs, the hosts of a village fête, hit upon the novel idea of staging a mock murder mystery. In good faith, Ariadne Oliver, the well known crime writer, agrees to organise their murder hunt.

Despite weeks of meticulous planning, at the last minute Ariadne calls her friend Hercule Poirot for his expert assistance. Instinctively, she senses that something sinister is about to happen…

Another bafflingly good mystery!

I love Ariadne Oliver, both as Poirot's flamboyant friend and as Christie's own alter ego. This 1956 novel whips along, weaving confusion to the point where Poirot himself is baffled, even his moustache droops with dejection. Funny, clever and entertaining, this is top-class Christie.
David Suchet does a great job of bringing all the characters to life. However, the abrupt ending made me wonder if something had been chopped off!

Fab narration. The story dragged on

Fab narration as always by Hugh. The story dragged on. And on. Not the best. Still finished it.

Suchet is a terrible narrator

He has annoying habit of starting sentences in a loud voice, but trailing off so quietly you can barely hear the last few words of the sentence. Maybe that works when you have mics all around as an actor and can do overdubs, but here it means you have to constantly rewind or crank the volume up so high that the next sentence starts off in high decibels. Also he does this very often with Poirot himself - and when he goes soft - his French slur makes it even harder to hear what he is saying.
I knew when he narrated that someone was going to whisper that this was going to be inaudible, and without a turn of the volume knob it was.
Can't someone please educate him on this? I can't be the first person to notice it.

Wonderful as always

While Dead Man's Folly isn't my favourite of Agatha Christie novel's, David Suchet's narration is, as always, wonderful. The author Ariadne Oliver is one of Poirot's more unusual friends and crops up from time to time in his books. When she summons him at short notice, you know that something interesting will follow.

A very enjoyable book

This audiobook is greatly enhanced by David Suchet's excellent narration. It's a well written and engaging story, well paced and beautifully delivered by David Suchet. I have read this book several times over the years, but it is still a pleasure to revisit this old favourite.
