About this listen

Dating a widower comes with unique challenges that you won’t encounter when dating a single or divorced man. For the relationship to work, the widower will have to put his feelings for his late wife to the side and focus on you. But how do you know if he’s ready to take this step?

Drawing on his own experience as a remarried widower, Abel Keogh provides unique insight and guidance into the hearts and minds of widowers, including:

  • Why widowers date so soon after their late wife dies
  • How to know if the widower is ready to make room in his heart for you
  • Red flags that indicate widowers aren’t ready for commitment
  • How to set and maintain healthy relationship boundaries with widowers

Dating a Widower is your guide to having a successful relationship with a man who’s starting over. It also contains 22 real-life stories from women who have gone down the same road you’re traveling. It’s the perfect book to help you decide if the man you’re seeing is ready for a new relationship - and whether dating a widower is right for you.

How to cope with issues dating a widower

This book has taught me how to deal with insecurities I have within the relationship.. finding ways to discuss problems.. when to talk about concerns.. and what’s acceptable to talk about.. what’s acceptable to accept. I think I needed this book to be true to myself about what is good and bad.

Disappointing

I guess I expected a lot more from this book. It includes some decent info & advice but that I would mostly class as common sense. Several things I didn’t like however, are:
- what was often referred as “healthy boundaries” sounded incredibly strict and didn’t allow to put into context everyone’s individual circumstances, it felt somewhat rigid and somewhat black & white as to what is healthy or not.
- Timings were also missing from expectations and the fact everyone grieves at a different pace.
- Finally, they were hardly any references to situations where the widower has become the sole parent of children, which clearly change a lot of the dynamics and grieving process, nor provide any advice on how to approach those cases.

Overall, it seemed to be more about sharing the author’s personal experience than a well rounded guide, with towards the end a lot more examples from other people.
