Denn Violet erwartet ein Kind von Max Hammersmith, und ausgerechnet seine Ehefrau Susan ist die begleitende Hofdame des Buckingham Palace. Doch bald verblassen diese Probleme vor der politischen Realität: Der Zweite Weltkrieg tobt, und auch das Hotel Savoy droht Opfer deutscher Luftangriffe zu werden.
