Reporter Freya Sinclair has always known she was different. While waiting on the outcome of an autism assessment, Freya uproots her life in Glasgow, quitting her job at one of Scotland’s top broadsheets and taking a local beat in her childhood home of Orkney. But her plans for a quiet life are shattered when human remains are exhumed by a winter storm on Orkney’s wild Atlantic coast.

The identity of the bones opens old wounds in the islands, and sheds light on a darker truth nobody wants to accept. As the nights draw in, Freya’s obsessive hunt for answers turns into a cat-and-mouse game, with each secret she unearths threatening her job, compromising her family, and exposing new victims to a killer who's watching from the shadows…

I very much enjoyed this book. The excellent sense of place and the narrator added to the story for me.

Fantastic debut novel

The story was great. I enjoyed it!

The narration was very poor and the ridiculous mispronunciations of place names was awful! That should have been easy to get right.

Good story

The story is good - the narrator says all the place names wrong and it makes it really difficult to listen to

Really good story - narrator not so good

A great story set in a part of the Country I've always wanted to visit. I felt for the protagonist, Freya, who was struggling with a possible diagnosis of Autism, amongst other reporters. The crimes committed are heinous and the solution satisfying.

A brilliant debut novel

Absolutely loved this book , cannot wait to listen to the other novels in the series .

Really good

story was too contrived for me, some elements interesting, started better and then went downhill. Narrator terrible for me, stress very often in the wrong place in the sentence and too much overegged slowed down pronunciation presumably designed for those not used to Scottish accents, I disliked it.

too many tropes
