About this listen

When you're caught between two evils, only the most decisive will survive. The 13th audiobook in action supremo Stephen Leather's Spider Shepherd series is his most pulse-pounding yet....

A violent South London gang will be destroyed if Dan 'Spider' Shepherd can gather enough evidence against them while posing as a ruthless hit man. What he doesn't know is that his work as an undercover agent for MI5 is about to intersect with the biggest terrorist operation ever carried out on British soil.

Only weeks before, Shepherd witnessed a highly skilled IS sniper escape from a targeted missile strike in Syria. But never in his wildest dreams did he expect to next come across the shooter in a grimy East London flat. Spider's going to have to proceed with extreme caution if he is to prevent the deaths of hundreds of people, but at the same time, when the crucial moment comes he will have to act decisively.

The clock is ticking, and only he stands between us and Armageddon....

A big fan of Stephen Leathers novels , so was very happy when this, the latest in his "Dan Shepherd" series published.

Great interweaving of plots and characters, with a few "developing"twists in the tale as the story builds to an exciting climax.
Paul Thornley has a style of narration, and brings the characters to life for me.
Love this series I feel I know "Spider" and care about him and what happens in his life.
I've been hooked since "Hard Landing"!

Dan "Spider" Shepherd, on top form!

Paul Thornley's pace and multiple character voicing is very good indeed. The one issue for me however is how so many of the narrative sentences ended on the same, indeed, higher ' note', implying an emphasis that was rarely there.

Paul Thornley portrays Dan Shepherd effortlessly creating an ongoing saga linked seamlessly to the previous books whilst maintaining a new situation each time. Stephen Leather writes in an engaging way without over complicating the story with unnecessary details creating a smooth flow. eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

excellent as always

Strangely unsatisfying as this story plods along some well worn paths and even replicates earlier escapades. For the purist there’s another drop in continuity and Leather’s expanded Arabic is a bit irritating. This book has the hallmarks of a contract fulfilment but Thornley is, as always, at least superb in his delivery. The story has little, if any, lighter moments that a Razor or similar character add and being dragged through to Europe from Syria became depressing. There’s not a lot here in story arc that’s likely to impinge in future works, so I am not sure I could recommend it, even to the most ardent Spider Shepherd fan.
