About this listen
A missing child's body is found on the edge of the Peak District. As DCI Kenny Murrain and his team investigate, more attempted child abductions are reported. Murrain's instincts tell him this is a community with secrets, and those secrets have their roots deep in the past.
Unexpected connections surface as he uncovers mysteries long buried. A motorcycle accident in the nearby hills. The unexplained death of a local prison governor. And a high-profile child killing two decades before. Then another child goes missing, and Murrain and his team must race to identify the killer before the past catches up with them and it's too late....

"A talent to be reckoned with...A strong story line, muscular prose and a real sense of pace...a police procedural for a new age.” (Daily Mail)

Good plot, well read.
I liked the complexity of the plot - the connections weren’t there to see until quite a long way into the story.

Consistent. Real and Engaging to the end
Though on many levels these books are slow. The pace matches the imagined reality and it’s a fictional insight into a world that feels oddly familiar? The resigned dialog is very British and I ended up caring much about the victims and police characters. So often I find I do not care and abandon a book, but this is the authors skill. Literally will go straight into vol 3. Great stuff!

Kept me guessing until the end
Another good listen from this author. The narrator’s voice is very soothing so a good bedtime listen but is also exciting enough to listen to during the day. Now off to download the next in the series.

Some surprises
Excellent narrator. Always enjoy DCMurrain and his‘instincts’. Up until the reveal of whodunnit I thought the book was excellent and tightly woven structured well with some good twists- perhaps a little neat but loose ends generally need to be sewn up. For me the ending was a little rushed and all crammed in to secure an ending. I won’t give any spoilers. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
