This novel is a jewel which I feel grateful to have come across. It seems to give one the means to unlocking those hidden recesses in one's own mind which need most attention. It provides a very deep education.

An unforgettable novel brilliantly read by Juliet Stevenson. These characters will stay with me forever . Although very long so many issues are covered one's interest is held throughout. The language is beautiful, enhanced by the way in which it is read. A moving and uplifting book.

a great story telling from Juliet Stevenson combined with the great stories. my question is how the author is so learnt about other cultures and foreign cities into such depths at that time, to be able to write as an advocate for a group minor? Impressive and a satisfactory ending,l😙😃

This is my favorite novel of George Eliot's. She conveys so much understanding of how men & women lived at the time: their inner thoughts & motivations, their terrible choices, their limitations, their relationships with each other. I found it fascinating that the central theme revolved around Judaism, and read a number of articles regarding Judiasm & George Eliot, which were so interesting. I only wish I could convince my book group to tackle it, because I long to discuss it. And the narration by Juliet Stevenson was incredible - she is truly amazing in the way she brings the story to life & embodies the characters.

Brilliant story with a complex cast of characters all drawn with deep psychological detail and empathy. Juliet Stephenson reads this wonderfully with a vocal range of exceptional ability which is a delight to enjoy. The plot thickens and deepens as the book progresses, building up to its intense and satisfying ending.

What an absolutely brilliant story. Eliots understanding of the human character is described in-depth with exquisite language that paints a picture so detailed you can almost smell the scenes. This book made me want to be a better person. As for performance, Juliet Stevenson narration of the story and depiction of Eliots character’s was absorbing and did absolute justice to them all.

Fascinating and interesting to see how Jews have been hated for so long though no good reasons as to why other than plain old prejudice. Well worth the time to listen to it.
