About this listen

Just returned from years overseas on a secret mission, Albert Campion is relaxing in his bath when his servant Lugg and a lady of unmistakably aristocratic bearing appear in his flat carrying the corpse of a woman.

At first Campion is unwilling to get involved, but he is forced to bring his powers of protection to bear on the case, and to solve not only the mystery of the murdered woman but also the alarming disappearance of some well-known art treasures.

Allingham always surprises... somehow. I always know I've had enough at the end but that I'll return to her again for the quirky view.

l

narrator!

But wonderfully narrated as always from David Thorpe - and enough interesting period detail to be fun.

Not his best

The reader brings the characters alive. He is a pleasure to listen to. The story complexity ensures you are kept guessing until the very end.

Excellent book that keeps you guessing right to the end

Allingham is such a good writer and really understands how war changes everyone and everything. Good mystery really well narrated. Highly recommended

Full of the atmosphere of wartime, excellently done

The high falsetto voice chosen for Campion made me visualise him as a pantomime dame

narrator spoiled it

Great story, love Campion stories. This is ruined by absolutely dreadful narration. Buy the book instead.

Terrible Narrator

Having just rediscovered Margery Allingham, I find myself gripped by her excellent story telling. Plenty to keep you listening as the tale twist and turns. I have come to terms with the narration, not the best but, not enough to put me off downloading more of Albert Campion.

Another delightful story

Brilliantly narrated, this tale is thoroughly engrossing. Read in order, the Campion series is very addictive.

Best yet!

I couldn’t stand to listen for more than a couple of hours, The narrator was over the top, with a weirdly falsetto voice for a main character. Recommend trying a sample before you buy the audio book version.
