About this listen

Winner of The Ned Kelly Lifetime Achievement Award

Winter in Tiverton, and Constable Paul Hirschhausen has a snowdropper on his patch. Someone is stealing women's underwear, and Hirsch knows how that kind of crime can escalate. Then two calls come in: a child abandoned in a caravan, filthy and starving. And a man on the rampage at the primary school.

Hirsch knows how things like that can escalate, too. An absent father who isn't where he's supposed to be; another who flees to the back country armed with a rifle. Families under pressure can break. But it's always a surprise when the killing starts.

Steven Shanhan is a great narrator. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Lots of different plots which surprisingly are not confusing. Put the next one on my wish list.

Rattles along

sad to finish this as the only other titles in the series are only available in German which I'm not at all fluent In, please sort this out audible as I want to hear more of the Tiverton cop' s adventures

if only the next in series was available!

I’ve listened to several of these books and have enjoyed them all. Narrator is excellent and it really does transport
you to the Australia bush town, the main characters are likeable and you warm to the gentle scepticism of Hirsch the local cop, who is a kind caring guy. Recommended

Great book and narrator

You’ll likely like this. Tiverton is not a happening place - well not quickly and not at first… but that’s great. If you like a slow build up, well constructed characters and dry observations from our protagonist - this series may well be for you. If you’re after fast cars, shallow characters and unbelievable plots - look elsewhere.

If you like slow radio…

The narrator in this book is very very good. Different voices for the characters is easy listening. Garry Dishers books are enjoyable and keeps you guessing until the end. This is my third Disher book and I will certainly read more of them.

Narrator is superb.

Consolation is the third book in the Paul Hirschhausen series. Hirsch was demoted to the one-cop station in rural Tiverton, he is now settling in and has become part of the community.
During the August chill, Hirsch makes a welfare check revealing a case of child cruelty, swiftly followed by an angry parent terrorising the school principal.
He also has victims of a persistent snow-dropper (underwear stealer), and of Irish roof-repair scammers, but then an incident puts him also in charge of Redruth Police Station and on the trail of a gun-toting pair seeking revenge.. He then has to deal with financial irregularities in the bank accounts of the vulnerable elderly and a missing husband.
Hirsch is not perfect but has morals and is not battling drugs or alcohol.
Garry Disher is very good at setting the scene and Steve Shanahan is excellent as the narrator and makes it all come to life.
Next instalment please.

The third I've listened to and will listen to more

Refreshing Australian novel about the everyday work of a police covering a large rural area.

Australian police procedure novel.

I should have stopped after book 1 but the reviews persuaded me that this one might be better. It wasn’t. I read quite a bit of Aussie Noir but this doesn’t even conjure up the environment as well as others. Just finished reading Gary Dishers 2023 latest book and that was far far better. I had to speed up the narration too. Quite simply it was boring with an uncomplicated plot and predictable and anti-Climactic ending. I don’t particularly feel anything for the main character, he’s very beige. Won’t be buying the next one

So absolutely disappointing

The narrator did not do this book any favours, his flat slightly depressing delivery was a turn off. Plenty did happen, but it just didn't seem Like it. I got to twenty minutes to go and decided I didn't care anymore and gave up.

Sorry but found this listen dull
