Un quarantacinquenne in fuga da Milano ripercorre, a ritroso, vicende collettive ridotte a frammenti (l’arrivo degli "uomini delle berline nere", fra i quali Michele Sindona, che costruirono il petrolchimico di Ravenna e gli impianti balneari; la famiglia dei "tedeschi di Pomposa", che finì tra le vittime della Strage di Bologna) e si interroga su se stesso, sui genitori defunti, sulla comunità assente.
