About this listen
Best friends snowed in together. When the heat rises, will they get cold feet?
Getting snowed in at a remote cottage in Wales with someone he'd fancied for ages isn't exactly how Sam expected to spend Christmas. His feelings for Ryan are pointless. Ryan's straight - or so he thought.
Until now, Ryan's kept his feelings for Sam buried. Why ruin a friendship over what might only be gay experimentation? Playing it cool seems safer, until a cold snap makes sharing body heat vital. In their Welsh safe haven, anything seems possible.
As Ryan's reserve melts away, Sam wants more than stolen kisses under the mistletoe. But a sudden thaw means making decisions. They could face the New Year together - unless one of them gets cold feet.
©2014 Jay Northcote (P)2015 Dreamspinner PressI loved all the premises: best friends secretly pining for each other, one of them struggling with admitting his sexuality; forced proximity with the two of them snowed in over Christmas; none of them sure the other wants to take things further than friendship.
But these two guys made me so mad! The lack of communication and assumptions Ryan and Sam jump to is absolutely maddening and frustrating. It takes one final, frankly completely unnecessary, fight for them to finally snap and stop with the half-mumbled sentences and barbs.
The book in enjoyable, all in all is a quick and cute and pretty sweet.
All I want for Xmas is to learn to communicate!

The story I absolutely adored, as I did when I read it. It's sweet and cute and fluffy. Hot and horny and brimming with sexual tension. It left me with a case of the warm fuzzies.
Unfortunately the voices just didn't work for me and distracted me from the story.
Fantastic Story

The narrator is excellent. Very smooth and easy to listen to. He’s another of my favourites and I am happy to see him working with Jay.

It's a story of friends, one gay, one straight, alone together over the festive season and hidden desires surfacing.
Well written, well narrated and a lively feel good book. Did have to speed up the narration but I normally do.

Narration is good. Maybe characters should have more different voices but I liked the narration as it is.
Sweet holiday story

I have a fondness for this author's university age main characters and, although this story is different, it somehow reminds me of the first Housemates book. (That is my absolute favourite Jay Northcote book.) Like that, this is another of the author's earlier books. It did have some limitations as it is a shorter read/listen. For example, Ryan's relationship with his parents felt glossed over. It is, nevertheless, quite charming and just right for this time of year, and low on angst despite the misunderstandings near the end. It is also unashamedly British, which is always a plus for me!
This is, I believe, my first listen to a narration by Matthew Lloyd Davies. He brought the characters ably to life and I loved Mari's accent in particular. I will definitely look out for further narration by him.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.
