About this listen

Simon Lewis is having some trouble adjusting to his new life as a vampire, especially now that he hardly sees his best friend Clary, who is caught up in training to be a Shadowhunter - and spending time with her new boyfriend, Jace. Simon decides he needs a break and heads out of the city - only to discover that sinister events are following him. Realising that the war they thought they’d won might not yet be over, Simon has to call on his Shadowhunter friends to save the day - if they can put their own splintering relationships on hold long enough to rise to the challenge….

I have to say this book was great and Ed Westwick was fantastic Molly C.Quinn on the other hand was ok for the most part but her pronunciation of certain words or names was awful I can only imagine that she was new to the mortal instruments an had never been told how to pronounce them but once you get over that you enjoy the book as it is

Totally entertaining

I really enjoy when a book explore lives of "secondary characters" and I very enjoyed the book exploring Simon's life.
I didn't enjoy as much the changes of the narrators though because just when you are used to one voice and who is who, the narrator changes and you have to get used to the new voices again.

Great

Her performance put me off and I groaned every time she started a chapter. Story great.

Fun story, her performance was not the best

I've loved the mortal instruments series, very gripping, an original story line! Cassandra Clare is a true artist

A fantastic and very original YA series!!

The one thing I don’t like, is that the story about the ‘scars’ Jace and Clary ‘both have’ is not consistent with the last book.
Also, I get what people are saying now- the female narrator is whiny, but male one is okay.

Consistency is key

Change of pace to new voices. I enjoyed the British accent. The woman's pronunciation of the Steele isn't the same as the others which is weird. However I enjoyed both voices

Enjoyed it

Have been listening to the books back to back and the narrators jarred badly to the point that it is so distracting from the story and the characters that we've got to know over the last three books. Male narration better but Simon is very inconsistent and female voice is throughly off putting. Trying to get through to the end of the book as really like the story and invested in the characters. Hope book 5 has improved !!

Good story, I've read these in order. The male narrator is good but the female make clary sounds like a whinny little twit.

Great book but annoying narrator

It's a great listen in any case, simply because the books are good and the quality holds up throughout the series, but when it comes to performance, this is the weakest one. Molly C. Quinn has an unfortunate habit of reading the book like a spiritual meditation tape. Her interpretation of the text knocks a few years off the intended audience age group and gives it a very teenage-y, breathy tone. I didn't dislike the audiobook but I am glad they replaced her.

Weakest in the series, performance-wise
