Critic reviews

"The Mortal Instruments series is a story world I love to live in. Beautiful." (Stephanie Meyer)
"The story's sensual flavor comes from the wealth of detail: demons with facial piercings, diners serving locusts and honey, pretty gay warlocks, and cameo appearances from other urban fantasies' characters....Lush and fun." ( Kirkus Review)

This is undoubtedly a good book, but its also a complicated and lenghty one. I found myself having to relisten to segments to try and figure out what was going on. It would in this instance have been better to have the book to flick through to re-read crucial passages. It is enjoyable, and will appeal to twilight fans and YA market.

good story but tricky to follow on audio book

Where does City of Bones rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the very best. I have listened to harry potter, hunger games, the help, and my brother has bought audiobooks that i need to listen to. I think all of them have been amazing but since I have listened to it recently it is stuck in my mind.

What other book might you compare City of Bones to, and why?

13 treasure series because they follow the same line with fairies and the second sight. I loved both stories but audible doesn't have 13 treasures. Please try get it.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I thought all the scene written were very well done. I liked the scene when they go to Magnus' party and the vampire bit.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You better check your families history.

Any additional comments?

I loved this story and can't wait to get more credits to buy the next book. I have even started to write a story and one day hope to get it published but since I am 13 thats going to be in a while.

can't wait get the next one

What did you like best about this story?

While the themes in the story are quite familiar if you read a lot of vampire/demon young fiction, the alternate world described was very believable. I really enjoyed listening to this, if it was a book it would be a page turner.

Which character – as performed by Ari Graynor – was your favourite?

I found her portrayals very believable, especially Simon.

Good young adult book!

Having seen the movie based on the book, my expectations for the story were high, and they were met. Anyone who knows and loves the story from the movie is almost certain to enjoy this audiobook. Ari Graynor’s performance was outstanding, I am so looking forward to the next book. Well done Cassandra!

Excellent listen!!!

Listened to this for the nostalgia after her most recent release having loved the book as a teen and was horrified by how cringeworthy the dialogue was. Characters were unrealistic and unlikeable. The author writes monologues in flowery prose, as if anyone would ever speak that way, and basic conversations like a wattpad fever dream of a not-like-other-girls teenager. The whole thing is made so much worse by the whiny and tedious voice actor. The most recent release was an enormous improvement so I guess it goes to show what experience can do for a writer. I like the world and story so will push through the series but praying the next book has a different narrator.

Thank god her writing has improved

Wow where do I start - this is a cracking read (or listen) Clary is just a normal teenager growing up in Brooklyn (so she thinks) until she starts seeing people she shouldn't (yes I know what your thinking there are so many books like this out there) but not like this one this is a totally new take - new world, new beings and a few old ones as well. Very very entertaining it kept me hooked all the way through Clary and Simons relationship is endearing and Clary and Jace's is totally complicated - please bring out the other two books City of Ashes and City of Glass - I have read these too but would love to have them on my mp3 player too. All in all a must have for anyone who likes fantasy/urban fantasy not just for young adults I am much older and have enjoyed every single moment.

cracking read
