About this listen

Magic is fading... and the ways of Man are driving the Old Ones to the West, beyond the ken of humankind. The ancient groves are being destroyed, and if nothing is done, Ireland will lose its essential mystic core. The prophecies of long ago have foretold a way to prevent this horror, and it is the Sevenwaters clan that the spirits of Eire look to for salvation. They are a family bound into the lifeblood of the land, and their promise to preserve the magic has been the cause of great joy to them... as well as great sorrow.

It is up to Fianne, daughter of Niamh, the lost sister of Sevenwaters, to solve the riddles of power. A shy child of a reclusive sorcerer, she finds that her way is hard: She is the granddaughter of the wicked sorceress Oonagh, who has emerged from the shadows and seeks to destroy all that Sevenwaters has striven for. Oonagh will use Fianne most cruelly to accomplish her ends, and stops at nothing to see her will done. Will Fianne be strong enough to battle this evil and save those she has come to love?

Enjoyed the third book of the Sevenwaters series which concludes the main storyline. It's different to the other books in that Fianne is conflicted in her actions and there is almost no romance at all. It is there but it is a miniscule part of the novel. I'd forgotten nearly all this book and certainly how it ends and it's not my favourite of Ms Marillier but still enjoyable. The narrator was OK but I still prefer the narrator of "Son of Shadows"

absolutely awful narrator. so glad when the following book was by the much better narrator who knows how to pronounce Irish names.

This was on par with the first book for me, I felt like this finished the story. I love the detail in these stories, it's just the perfect balance for me. I felt this story had a lot more about the craft in which I loved.

I have had to mark the performance down but that was due to sound issues, it frequently went high as if extra bits were added in later. It spoil the listen a bit.

Another great book in the series

The narrator was good, the story was good but the volume was all over the place! It kept suddenly getting loud and really hurt my ears. Not one for those of us who listen on earphones.

Really bad recording.

The narrative was quite off putting when every few minutes there would be a louder voice of narrator saying a line like it was edited at a different volume I'm sure it's a editing error and not the fault of the narrator, I still enjoyed the book.

Would you listen to Child of the Prophecy again? Why?

Have already read the book , but really enjoyed the audible . Would listen to again and will.

What did you like best about this story?

The story just pulls you in. You are not only listening to the story you are living it. From start to finish you are captivated .

What does Heather O'Neill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

A fantastic read by Heather O'Neil. She brings to life every character in a voice that just spell bounds you.

Any additional comments?

A must for all those with a connection with ancient times.

I struggled with this. The story didn't make much sense. Oona wanted to finish Johnny off but goes to all the bother of getting her granddaughter to do it...again in a very long winded way.
if oona can quickly make her way, magically, over an ocean, then I'm sure she could've just done that in the first place and killed the boy herself...THUS saving a lot of time. Also, if the girl can transform into a small creature and do all she did as that creature, how did the amulet stay on? And did nobody think it a bit odd that a tiny bird has her amulet around its neck?

The sound/volume of the book was difficult. The narrator would do some character voices so quietly that I would need to adjust the volume in order to hear them. And in some places it would suddenly get very loud for a few sentences, as if she'd got her mouth right up to the microphone. It happened a lot and kept taking my focus away from the story.
I'm put off reading the next book at the moment, in case it's this long-winded

quite long-winded. sound issues.Contains spoiler

I absolutely adored the first 2 Sevenwater books and listened to them in record time. This one however, took me a lot longer to consume. I even needed to take a break and listen to another book half way through to give myself a break. I found our main character very unlikeable (which I’m sure was the point) but at times it was hard to listen to the things she did. I also didn’t enjoy the narration of the sorceress. Over the top evil.
In saying that, I loved the ending and as always loved seeing characters I loved in the other stories back again.

Doesn’t compare to the first two books in the series…
