About this listen

The enthralling saga from the author of A Pennyworth of Sunshine and Down Weavers Lane.

Calico Road runs through a tiny Lancashire hamlet up on the edge of the moors, miles from anywhere. Its folk are an independent breed - and in 1827 they are a thorn in the side of the vicious mill owner in the valley below.

Toby Fletcher's father ignored his bastard son while alive. Now Toby is the new owner of the rambling old inn, an unwitting keeper of its secrets. Then Meg Staley comes to Calico - a woman who was strong enough to survive one tragedy but found it harder to withstand a second blow. Toby finds her wandering the moors, cold and starving, and brings her back to the inn.

Working there, Meg starts to rebuild her life and find a fragile happiness. But then the secrets of Calico Road come crashing down on her and those she has grown to love....

Calico Road

I love listening to Annie Jacob's books. I've not had one yet that I've not enjoyed it, and Narrated by Nicolette Mckenzie did a great job. I enjoyed this book, and I enjoyed all the characters coming to life in my head through the narrator. and I hope they'll be a third book 📖 🙂 ❤️

Loved this sequel to Weaver's Lane

At first I was a little bit confused. Initially the story sounded like it should be the first of the two, preceding Weaver's Lane. But it soon became clear that it is indeed a sequel. Or, more accurately, a different branch that follows the same timeline. Calico Road follows Meg's story. It is every bit as gripping as Weaver's Lane. A must read for all fans of Anna Jacobs.
My only criticism is that the chapter divisions in this audio version made no sense whatsoever. They each averaged around 5 minutes in length, but most of them were not proper chapters at all, often ending, and the following one beginning mid sentence. This could have been better. It made things confusing at times, especially when I had set the sleep timer to stop at the end of the chapter.
Also (sorry) a little niggle about Nicolette McKenzie's pronunciation. The word "GRIMACE" was not pronounced correctly, and I found this a little irritating.

Staley family series

Highly recommend this series to anyone who loves Anna Jacobs books. Found them both engaging from the very first chapter and could not stop listening. The narration is excellent for both books. Throughly enjoyed them.
