About this listen

For someone who didn't intend to wreck the solar system's fragile balance of power, Jim Holden did a pretty good job of it. While Earth and Mars have stopped shooting each other, the core alliance is shattered. The outer planets and the Belt are uncertain in their new - possibly temporary - autonomy.

Then, on one of Jupiter's moons, a single super-soldier attacks, slaughtering soldiers of Earth and Mars indiscriminately and reigniting the war. The race is on to discover whether this is the vanguard of an alien army or if the danger lies closer to home.

Critic reviews

"This breakneck tale will have readers itching for book three." (Publishers Weekly)

"Great characters, excellent dialogue, memorable fights, freakish experiments, and twisty-turny mysteries... Only an excellent book series can pull them all off, and the Expanse will definitely be added to the shortlist of science fiction tales that manage to do so" (Wired.com)

"Those who enjoyed the first book will enjoy Caliban's War as much, if not more... A crackingly enjoyable read." (SFF World)

If you like solid sciences based SF with a good storyline, well developed and interesting characters and some really thought provoking elements, then this is for you! I loved it. Well performed, a great but human story. Very enjoyable.

One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listen to. Could not stop listening to it . All the characters in this book are amazing. The expense has started to become my favourite sci-fi.

Amazing !

Rare combination of three dimensional characters and epic expansive thinking (huge politics, science fiction, mystery). Was gripped all the way through.

Expansive, epic storytelling, well narrated.

Its hard to review without giving away any spoilers, so read on with a bit of tentativeness.

I've never wanted to get through a book so quickly, not because it dragged on, but because I was desperate to find out what happened. I wasn't disappointed with the speed at which the story moves without skimping on any of the necessary details that makes a story so good.

Each character is so expertly crafted that I would love to meet the real world versions of each of them, mostly a foul mouthed granny and a musclehead with a heart of gold. I feel like a fly on the wall watching the crew of the Roci save the universe from destruction once again.

No other books melds together zombies, aliens, corrupt politicians, space travel, real world physics, intense space battles, horror, action, dystopia, utopia and sci-fi together so well, let alone the vulnerability that the writers have allowed each character to show, especially Holden's admission of fear, and how it made him act out of sorts. I've been a fan of the series since I watched it the first time, but the books are vastly superior. There is much more happening and I'm glad I was enticed by the books aswell. It is currently 02:40 in the morning and I'm tempted to start the next book in the series just to get even more of the story. The series has done a great adaption, but left out plenty of the substance to really enjoy the books without really knowing what is going to happen. I mean, I wasn't expecting THAT ending until midway through book 3, but as I heard it I lost my mind and goosebumps filled my body with excitement for the next installation.

Easily 10/10

I find Jeffersons subtle use of accents just right. Pacing is spot on too. I like to feel I am being read to not read at. Saw the Expanse on Netflix and liked the story so gave Audible a go and so pleased I did!

Gripping tale masterfully told.

I don't read a lot of sci fi. I tend to like fantasy books. this series though, is fantastic. It's characters are so realistic that they genuinely feel like friends. It's plot is intricate and yet easy to follow and the reading is very very good. I'm eager to read the next one.

Another great instalment
