About this listen

To stop a brutal mafia war, I'm forced to marry a man I left tied up in a hotel room seven years ago.

Griffin Quinlan, the new head of the Irish Mafia in Lower Manhattan, is as dangerous as he is gorgeous. Brutal and calculating, he’s the last person I ever expected to see again.

Seven years ago, one night of passion brought us together, but I walked away without looking back.

Or untying him.

Now, he’s my husband and wants revenge.

Our forced marriage is meant to seal the peace between the Irish and Greek mafia families—my brothers’ idea of a truce.

To Griffin, I’m nothing more than collateral, a pawn to control his enemies. But he has no idea I’m not the same woman he once spent all night with twisting and sweating in the sheets.

The spark between us still burns hotter than the sun, but this time, I won’t be so easily conquered. Even while he’s indulging my darkest fantasies.

For six months, I’ll give him my body, and nothing more.

But with every touch, every blistering kiss to fool our enemies, I can’t deny I’m falling for him.

I thought I could see trouble coming from a mile away, but I never thought an enemy from my past would show up and destroy everything.

Or that Griffin would fight to keep me, no matter what it takes.

Brutal Collateral is Book 1 in the brand-new Irish Mafia Series Quinlan Empire.

Deborah Garland blows me away with another amazing novel, a dark mafia romantic suspense that captivates your attention, takes you to the edge of your seat and tugs at your heartstrings. I love how she lightens things up by incorporating some hilarious scenes, as part of the push-and-pull and testing limits in the getting to know you phase of the two characters in this arranged marriage. Griffin Quinlan, who once worked for another Irish Mafia family, the O’Rourke’s in Astoria, is now the leader of his own Mafia family in lower Manhattan. Still getting adjusted to his new circumstances, not only looking out for his own empire but also looking to grow, he makes a deal with the Greek Mafia family. That deal served more than one purpose and to strengthen the deal and the bond between families and part of the deal was an arranged marriage to the elusive sister, Ava. Griffin and Ava have history, both in their past lives, he as a guard and she as a lieutenant in the Navy, training to be a SEAL, except she went by the name, Hadleigh Castille, then. The two had a steamy night together, a memorable night, and when he saw her again, he wanted her. Except he wanted the Hadleigh version of Ava, who was fierce and the more time they spend together he sees Ava is even fiercer. There was undeniable chemistry between these two, smoking hot chemistry, and it is explosive when they finally give into it. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out with plenty of drama, relationship drama and mafia world drama, angst, some humor, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. And as always, the writing, plot and world building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. Deborah Garland, thank you for another amazing story and wild ride.

🎧📚🎧 Deborah Garland has a knack for choosing the perfect narrators to bring her characters to life, and Lucy Rivers, Joe Arden, and Derek Duvall were just that, perfect and amazing in their roles, accent and all. Rivers portrayal of Ava/Hadleigh was spot on, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her fierceness to her strength and determination. She was brilliant with the snark and witty dialogue too. Arden was just as amazing in Griffin’s role, showcasing his personality and demeanor as the alpha boss he became, keeping his cool with Ava, until he had enough, an absolutely swoon worthy performance. Duvall jumps in as Ava’s brothers, nailing it as the cold and ruthless Ares. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These three made a great team, with voices and talent that complemented each other and a gripping and entertaining performance that rivets you to the story.

In this first book in the Quinlan Empire Series — an Irish Mafia series — Deborah Garland delivers again with the perfect mix of suspense, spice, and romance. Griffin and Ava’s story is intense, dark, and captivating. Ava is strong, capable, and determined, while Griffin is enigmatic, obsessive, and deeply protective. They complement each other well. The side characters are intriguing, and the pacing is just right, with enough twists to keep things interesting. Lucy Rivers, Joe Arden, and Derek Duvall bring the characters to life with nuance and energy. Definitely worth adding to your list — I’ll be continuing the series for sure!
