About this listen

A young sergeant, recovered from battle against Rommel's Afrika Korps, is appointed leader of a dozen know-it-all draftees being poured into the Army's replacement pool. He toughens them into an effective team. As they land at Utah Beach, the Wehrmacht hands out its own bloody lessons. In minutes, one is dead and a second wounded, the onset of a pitiless 10-month ordeal.

In horrific combat from Normandy through the Bulge to the Elbe River, they learn to defeat a skilled and hardened enemy. All pay a steep price.

This book was incredible, great storyline, and great characters. Some accents could have been a little better, but other than

Bloody brilliance

Narrator’s range of voices limited with women sounding like they smoked 40 fags a day and British and foreign accents were abysmal. Knowledge of author is limited- there is no such thing as the Royal Army - it is the British Army! He also seemed to have the hots for Patten who gets mentioned regularly. Bits of storyline implausible and outside of the combat sections it was cringingly syrupy! On the positive side the action sections were generally okay.

Very average
