About this listen

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams: Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen.…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls - a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just "troubled". Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side - learning to harness their powers, control their magic, and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart. Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear - Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs.…

Romance heavy but still a un-put-down-able read

I really enjoyed this book as it was easy to read and there was always a mystery for me to really want to know about. I'm not a huge fan of romance novels and I think the reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because the main character was constantly boy-crazy. I loved the relationship between Kylie (main character) and Holiday (camp leader).

I also enjoyed learning the different species and the powers and how having these powers come with consequences. The novel did a good job of showing the grey of life.

I went on to reading all the books in the series, one after the other which showed how much the mysteries sucked me in and I NEEDED to know.

Brilliant story.

Loved this story and as it was audio I could get on with house work while listening.

Fun listening

Would you consider the audio edition of Born at Midnight to be better than the print version?

Defiantly loved listening to this rather than reading. Listening to book lets me drift totally into another world or rather where the story takes my imagination...

What other book might you compare Born at Midnight to, and why?

Probably along the lines of divergent, insurgent. Strong friendships and no boring parts!

Which character – as performed by Katie Schorr – was your favourite?

All.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Think the relationship between Kylie and her mum gave me a few tears. Close to home.

Any additional comments?

Well worth listen.

Good listen

Good story, relatable characters. touches on a few issues. I like the friendships and how forgiveness is often given.

Wow that was just bad

The narrator did not know how to do men’s voices and whenever Lucas trey or Derek where talking it was painful they sounded like women and as for the story it was worse than twilight at least with Bella she didn’t call everyone freak almost every single page it was just wow.

Bad story and bad morals imparted to YAs

Feels like the writer wrote this in the first person and then got the word processor to change everything to the 3rd person, there is no real reason for the 3rd person narration when nobody’s point of view is seen except Kyle, who’s basically a bigot, the bus journey makes me want to throw this in sin bin. Not the morales we should be giving our YAs.

Born at midnight

When I read good reviews -I was very exited to pick up this book. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. Storyline is boring and characters are dull. Will not be continuing with the sequel.

Annoying book

What would have made Born at Midnight better?

I am just not sure if the editors did their job.

What could C. C. Hunter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not have written it.

How could the performance have been better?

I can't blame the messenger but the annoying teenage American accent is horrible to listen to for hours on end. It just sounds to me that a whinny teenager just moved into my ears.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It tried to tackle the issues of racism, bullying and teenage pregnancy with the least eloquence. Is this to be the future of American literature for th young?
