About this listen

Violence suddenly takes the lead in the life of Neil Griffon. Following a grisly accident that lands his father in the hospital, Griffon finds himself in charge of his father's stables. Before he has a chance to get his bearings, he is brutally assaulted and abducted. The price for his freedom will mean the betrayal and deception of those who trust Griffon most.

Griffon has no choice - a no-compromise crime czar gives him an ultimatum he dare not refuse. The czar insists that his own 18-year-old son be hired by Griffon's stable so he can ride the superstar horse, Archangel, in the Derby. And his son must be trained to win. Or else.

Great story of thuggery and threat. As always, Tony Britton is simply the best narrator.

Another entertaining romp, beautifully brought to life! Kept snatching time to listen until I'd finished it!

Gripping tale, wonderfully narrated

So enjoyed his inventive tale of racing, derring do, father/son relationships and a touch of madness. Tony Britton's flawless narration is filled with sardonic wit, warmth and excitement. A rhythmic, ride from starting gate to finish line. Apologies. Couldn't resist the pun.

great story

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Excellent narration as always but the characters were more 2 dimensional than ever. The plot seemed a bit ridiculous but Tony Britton makes it listenable. Popcorn for the eardrums.

Not Dick Francis' best story

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

I loved the reading: Tony Britten has perfect pitch and dramatic ease; too often one can be irritated by the reader.
I found the story very good both psychologically and dramatically.
