Great read. I’ll never be able to look at certain kitchen appliances again without wincing given the exquisite description Bourdain used to describe how they were used for nefarious purposes to settle disputes. Rest in peace Tony. High five.

Such fun
Written before Bourdain's brilliant Kitchen Confidential, I'd kept this one in my TBR pile for several years, fearful that it might not live up the expectations created by that book and his later work, written and on TV. I need not have worried. Perhaps not as polished, but that familiar Bourdain energy and style is still there, including swearing, and the characters of tea two main cooks shines out, bursting with colour and the desperation of being trapped in a most unpleasant mafia situation. Very funny, and poignant, too.

Narrated by Kaleb Griffith, is the next best thing to Bourdaine himself, smooth, warm with great pacing and verbal variations holding the interest of the reader, should any extra be needed, throughout
A delicious read, and recommended.
