About this listen
DI Kelly Porter is about to discover just how dark things can get in the Lake District.
When a young woman is found unclothed, unspeaking at an ancient stone circle it's not clear if any crime has been committed. DI Kelly Porter and her team start looking into the circumstances, but the mystery girl disappears.
Soon after, a brutal murder is committed and sinister markings at the scene indicate that the killer had a message. The investigation reveals that in the beautiful Lake District there are those who believe in ancient ways, and within those circles old resentments are spilling over into terrible violence.
Kelly has all the pieces to solve the puzzle, but to put them together she must confront a figure from her past: One who nearly destroyed all that she holds dear. Will she avoid the same fate this time, or can the killer stay one step ahead of her to the bitter end?
A captivating and atmospheric detective novel from a rising star in British crime fiction, perfect for fans of Patricia Gibney and Cara Hunter.

Please proof read before publishing as it just make those that are fans mad when we remember more than the author…
Sadly I knew who it was half the way through…but the twist….oh that special twist that Rachel adds…. Gets you in the end….

It does feel like there are certain stock phrases and descriptions that the author is using now; cut and paste descriptions; of sibling relationship, the house, various mountains, mother's relationship with Ted, where her father's ashes are scattered. For those of us who are following the books in order, it's terribly tedious to hear the same words over and over again.
I don't know it's errors on the part of the written book or the audible production, but several times there are really silly mistakes. Kate is called Kelly, for example.
The continuity is a bit dodgy at times as well. Essentially, Rachel Lynch or Canelo need a new editor, because they are missing too many silly things which spoil the quality of the writing.
Interesting, but predictable & poor editing.

Not for the faint hearted!

Wales is stunning. As is Cornwall, Devon, Northumberland and the the Jurassic coast are all stunning. I found it incredibly irritating, boring & unfounded listening to Rachel bang on about the Lakes as being some sort of elitist nirvana.
Secondly this particular book is inherently racist- being a Pagan is just like any other religion- if someone commented on Islam for instance in this way they wouldn’t get published. There are immensely judgemental statements littered throughout and whilst I’m not necessarily Pagan, I felt it was inflammatory and nonsensical.
There is also an undercurrent of body shaming- if you don’t want to go for a run then you’re lazy. Get over yourself Rachel. Not everyone can go or likes running. Mr perfect Johnny was enchanting at first, then became a fitness bore.
Finally my greatest bugbear of all is the lack of continuity. Johnny gave Kelly his Grandmother’s ring. Then he bought it for her. Kelly’s one bed apartment suddenly is a 3 bed house. She got on fine with Josie, then by this book there’s tension.. Rubbish!
Yes I know its not real but seriously as an author please try & remember you’re own flipping story!! That’s so insulting when I’ve spent £45 odd on buying your books & you can’t even be bothered to fact check what you’ve said previously.
Do better Rachel
Disappointing on so many levels
