About this listen
Before the end, there is often change, and change can be very painful. Declan and Stacia come face-to-face with the most powerful elemental of them all, one with the power to eliminate mankind before the Vorsook ever show up. It’s time to confront his destiny and decide what it means to be the most powerful witch of all time.

I have relistened to them all including the 3 compendiums and the new Book of Levy (which is awesome and a must before you listen to this one) in anticipation of this one and only a little disappointed, but disappointed non the less.
it's gotten so different, I miss the earlier ones where it's Chris' narrative.
I hope the next book Blood Lines comes from his point of view and that Declan, as much as I love him, is not the be all and end all.
missing the older stories with Chris at the helm

For some reason all the later books in the series seem laser focused on Declan to exclusion of everything else including the story. 99% filler with some over arching story that could be summarised in two paragraphs in the next book. Nothing in this book feels like it has any emotional impact.
The characters say one thing but their actions are the opposite. Example Declan commits crimes and there is no doubt he has committed these serious crimes. He confesses and wants to face justice for his actions but undermines this by trying to escape. It robs this entire scene of any meaning or emotional value.
Declan is a powerful almost demi god like character this is the whole point of his characterization. How does he not abuse this power, who does he trust and place trust with? My problem is not with his power level but that he never turns up in this book. It feels like Declan and rest of the god hammer team turn up for cameos. Stacia never says or does anything relevant.
The "villains" do not feel like a threat or even turn up. When he accidently wipes them out with a mind fart no one seems to care. Honestly I felt more invested in these characters than anyone else in the book I could understand their motivation and empathise with it.
Coercion. This is what undermines the entire story in this book and just makes it weird. For this entire book Declan is under Coercion and never comes out of it. His entire character is about avoiding this very problem. Declan never goes on a hero's journey. He never goes on a redemption arch for various acts he does. The author creates a problem where any sane person would say YES so he has in reality has no choice but to do what this other being wants him to. The other being also then makes him a virtual slave this is where the book ends. Its a puzzle.
Honestly the morals and consequences are all over the place in this book. Very much a book where you have to turn off your brain and not have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this book.
The weird twitter style rant in book about the relationship between Declan and Stacia is not needed and feels like a repeat from previous book. As if more filler was need.
The over arching story, the clever blend of science, fiction, fantasy have been a pleasure to read. The last book was excellent which is why I think this book is so disappointing.
When there are so many other interesting character, places, stories in this universe to explore this is the story that is chosen to be published?
Disappointing mostly filler

Love this series but this is a mega preachy book.
Woould have been better as a novella, if John needed to explain the ramping up of power for declan. It could have take the first couple of Chapters the gone into battle mode. The space war done in 5 mins was a joke.
Pray for a return to form for 19
